Surrounded by pretty gardens with a small stream running through, it makes a perfect base for exploring the western Lake District fells, country and coastal walks, and cycle paths. Just 4 miles from Muncaster Castle, gardens and owl sanctuary, and the Ravenglass to Eskdale Miniature Steam Railway, whilst Wastwater (voted Britain’s favourite view 2007) is a few miles further. The 18th century Georgian port of Whitehaven to the north has a conservation harbour and marina, the Beacon Heritage Centre plus shops and restaurants, or if relaxation is a preferred option, simply unwind on the sunny patio with a good book. Shop 20 yards, pub 100 yards.

Cottage was well kitted out and nicely situated close to coast and also for Scafell Pike, village quaint but with good local store and Public House the Brown Cow Inn which did meals of a good standard and fair price.
