3. The low deposit payable under this offer is £25.
4. Does not apply to properties that sleep 10 or more.
5. The difference between the £25 low  deposit and the usual deposit shown in our main brochure or website is payable with the balance payment, which we must receive no later than 10 weeks before your booking starts, or at the time of cancellation if you cancel your booking. This payment will include all applicable charges as detailed on your booking confirmation, including any insurance premiums and any Ferry costs. If payment is not received in full on time, we can treat your booking as cancelled by you for a non-refundable reason. If this happens, you will be responsible for cancellation charges (as shown in our main brochure or our website) including any deferred Booking Fee, Personal Travel Insurance and Ferry crossings that you have chosen to buy, all of which must be paid immediately.

Property Description

In the delightful Friston Forest village of Westdean, these carefully converted Grade II listed barns with exposed beams date back to 1597 and are double award winning (award for excellent conversion of a 16thC listed ox barn). Now a Christmas tree and apple juice farm it was once owned by Alfred the Great. Free archaeology and history tour available for guests. Recent excavations revealed that the site had Neolithic occupation circa 2700BC, and an Elizabethan terrace and Jacobean banqueting house, the centre of a wider holding mentioned in Domesday Book which stretched from the River Cuckmere to Jevington. There are also ruins of an Elizabethan manor house, restored 14th century dovecote and ox farmyard of the 18th and 19th century. Quebec Barn (ref 26956) was used as local headquarters by Canadian forces in WW ll. Walking plus cycle trails (hire centre, ½ mile). Seven Sisters Country Park, 1 mile, and a secluded beach 1½ miles. Enjoy wildlife in the South Downs National Park. Horse riding stables, 5 miles at the old smuggling village of Alfriston. Visit Brighton and the historical ’Lanes’, Eastbourne and stroll along the Victorian pier, Drusillas Zoo, Beachy Head and Glyndebourne (opera in the grounds during the summer) within 5 miles. Pevensey Castle, Battle and 1066 country within 10 miles. Shops 4 miles, pubs 11/2 miles. Properties (refs 19748, 19749 and 26956) can be booked together for larger parties.

  1. Really great little barn. We stayed as a family of 3. I think the barn is better suited to just a couple. That said we all had a great stay and the barn has been converted to a very high standard and it was a pleasure to stay there. The owner was really helpful and a lemon drizzle cake was waiting in the barn for our arrival. The location is great , its remote BUT a bus service is very close by with a bus every 6 minutes to Eastborne and Seaford, so it possible to go there with out a car and get the benefits of being in the forest, but without being cut off.   4. Property is in a great position for walkers - through woodland, on to the Seven Sisters National Park and even across fields to Alfriston (lovely small town). The Pig Barn is part of a beautiful group of Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings and the owners are helpful, offering a tour of the property, and also providing eggs, fruit juice, jams from their own produce. Village is small and pretty. Church dates back to Anglo Saxon times and is very peaceful. May 2011.
  5. The Old Manor House Pig Barn is a comfortable retreat, with a blend of old cottage charm and modern appliances. The whole cottage is finished to a high standard and is set in a beautiful hamlet, buried in Friston Forest. The owner left a nice, lemon drizzle cake for my arrival. The home-made apple juice and eggs laid by hens on the farm are worth buying. Overall, a lovely cottage and a friendly, helpful owner, who will provide what you need and resolve any problems quickly.   12. A lovely conversion very compact and easy to live in. Excellent powerful shower, bathroom modern and well lit. The kitchen is very easy to use and well designed. Comfy chairs but need more padded loose cushions. External space, a shared walk through by adjoining property guests so privacy not great. Would really recommend the property, beautiful situation and only a short walk to the sea. Owner is lovely and really helpful. April 2010.
  13. The cottage has been beautifully decorated and furnished so that it’s rather like a nice boutique hotel. Also, the location is wonderful - in a rather busy part of SE England, this village is tucked away as it is not on a through road, so you feel rather privileged to be there. April 2010.

  19. The Barn was nicely furnished and homely and comforting. Owner was very welcoming and had turned heating on prior to our arrival. When we arrived, he showed us to the cottage, explained how things worked and left us with a lemon drizzle cake. All furnishings in excellent condition and had a lovely ambience and location.   20. The accommodation was ideal for two people and was lovely and warm and cosy. All the appliances worked - even the tv, which I have found in some other cottages that I have been to in the past isn’t always the case! The furnishings were excellent and the shower was good too. The situation of the cottage was good because it was in a very small quiet hamlet close to the coast and for walking along the cliffs and also in the forest. Nov 2009.
