Property Description

Excellent viewsExcellent views

These converted barns are situated in the quiet, peaceful and unspoilt village of Newchurch in the centre of Romney Marsh with its wealth of historical churches and smuggling history. The sandy beaches of St Mary’s Bay and Dymchurch are just 5 miles away. The barns have quarry floor tiles in the entrance and hallways, latch doors and exposed beams throughout and the living areas are on the first floor to maximise the rural views. The barns are set in a large garden and provide an excellent base for walking, cycling, or bird watching with many footpaths including the Royal Military Canal Walk, the Ancient Saxon Shoreline and the RSPB Nature Reserve at Dungeness. Steam railway fans will enjoy the famous miniature railway from Hythe to Dungeness and the Kent & East Sussex Steam Railway from Tenterden. Port Lympne and Howletts Wildlife Parks are nearby as are the Cinque Port towns. Eurotunnel and Dover are within easy reach for channel crossings. Shop 5 miles, pub 3 miles and restaurant 500 yards.

Ground floor: 1 double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and toilet. First floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with low beam. 2 single attic-style bedrooms, (one 2ft 6in for child). Shower room with toilet. Beams throughout.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. The cottage is located in a quiet village which gives good access to most attractions along the Romney Marsh coastline & towards Dover or Hastings. The back garden was very pleasant to sit in at the end of the day. The split, narrow stairs to the living areas on the second floor may be an issue for very young children or older persons. The best find was the restaurant at the end of The Street in the village - well worth a visit. June 2012.
  2. A very nice little cottage - very comfortable for me and my two sons to relax after long days exploring the countryside - and there’s lots of it - and some lovely towns in Kent and Sussex. It is quite out of the way but we enjoyed driving around the country lanes even in February and I can imagine that the garden would be great in the summer to enjoy. Unfortunately a bit too cold for us but I enjoyed it from the window in the very spacious downstairs bedroom. The kids bedrooms are very small but perfect for my 11 and 7 year olds and it was a great bonus that they were separate to avoid late night fighting. We would stay there again. Feb 2012.
  3. Very quiet village. The accommodation was ideal with large gardens for children’s play. The local church was very accommodating on Sunday for visitors. Can easily recommend this property to others. June 2011.
  4. The Old Barn cottage at New Church Romney Marsh was brilliant, you are in the middle of the country side which is flat. Great for cycling, which we did as the owner has a couple of cycles for you to borrow, its so quiet and peaceful, but a great base to the coast. June 2011.
  5. A beautiful cosy converted barn with all we needed and a lovely owner’s wife who was very helpful. The living room was more light and spacious than it looks in the brochure. We really enjoyed our week’s stay there. May 2011.
  6. Spacious, two bathrooms, warm in winter, rural views. Dec 2010.
  7. Good state of repair, good parking, nicely furnished. Aug 2010.
  8. Ideally located for visiting the many interesting places in Kent and East Sussex. Old Barn Cottage was very comfortable with everything we needed to feel at home. June 2010.
  9. It’s in a lovely location. Newchurch is a very pretty village with a super church. We particularly enjoyed the birds in the garden. March 2010.
  10. Quiet and cosy, for small family. March 2010.
  11. The location of the cottage was very good - central yet in a quiet village. Oct 2009.
  12. A very good base. July 2009.
  13. So well equipped, plenty of everything. Would definitely go again. Nice touch of tea, coffee and milk for our arrival. Met by the owner and shown round on arrival. Many very interesting places to visit within a short drive of property. If keen cyclists, easy riding and many routes. Cycles available at this property too! April 2009.
  14. Lovely quiet setting, barn well furnished, would book again. Oct 2008.
  15. Very quiet area and pleasant neighbours. Sept 2008.
  16. Excellent accommodation - I would certainly stay here again. March 2008.
  17. The cottage was very well equipped, the kitchen had all you needed and more, it was home from home. The children enjoyed spending time in the cottage as well out. Aug 2008.
  18. Very good holiday base for visiting Dorset. Clean and comfortable modern cottage. Everything needed for a pleasant holiday. April 2007.
  19. Having used self-catering accommodation for over 20 years, we can certainly recommend Old Barn as one of the cleanest and most well-equipped. Nov 2007.
  20. Very friendly owners - Poppy the dog excellent company for Tess (our springer spaniel puppy). Cottage very well equipped. Romney Marsh offers great variety for walkers. Dec 2006.
