Property Description

In an idyllic setting on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this single-storey cottage has its own secure, south-facing garden and is surrounded by
20 acres of meadowland and oak woods, unchanged for 300 years. Attached to the owners’ home, it is very comfortably furnished and boasts stunning countryside views. Just 200 yards away is the River Yealm where fishing is available by arrangement with the owner. Sparkwell Wildlife Park 2 miles. Historic Plymouth with water sports and Aquarium 7 miles. Coast 15 miles. Shop and pub 3 miles.

Cosy living room with ‘living-flame’ electric fire in stone fireplace. Farmhouse-style fitted kitchen/dining area with Rayburn and French doors to patio and garden. Two bedrooms; one double with canopied bed and one twin. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

  4. Oaklands Cottage is excellent accommodation under the shade of Dartmoor. Clean, comfortable and well equipped. It has a lovely garden with interesting wildlife, many birds, Guinea fowl, rabbits, deer etc. It is quiet and relaxing. After getting used to the 1 mile Devon ’road’ that connects it to the A38 it is very convenient for Plymouth, Kingsbridge, Totnes, Datmoutgh and Dartmoor. Sept 2011.

  8. The cottage was very well cleaned. Owners very friendly and helpful. We were welcomed with scones and clotted cream / apples and fruit from their garden. They were extremely friendly to our children who they gave a tour in their garden and they made us feel very welcome. Aug 2010.

  10. The location of the property was very special. It was secluded and private (even though the owners were next door). The environment surrounding the property was very well cared for and it was lovely being able to access a landscaped garden opposite. The wildlife, especially the birds, provided an extra dimension - waking up in the morning to the garden full of birds and rabbits running around in the field behind was magical. Importantly the owners were welcoming and hospitable without being intrusive in any way. March 2010.
  11. Good location, peaceful and warm in the winter. Bedrooms furnished a little old fashioned. Brand new bathroom and property very clean. We got free scones, jam and cream on arrival and some fresh eggs the next day. Delightful. Owner welcomed us on arrival and showed us around the property - very friendly. Feb 2010.
  12. Very pleasant cottage. Owners very close but did not infringe on our privacy. Only down there was poor service on our mobile phones. However there was a pay phone that received incoming calls in the cottage. The area is beautiful and there are lovely walks close by. Also a large tesco supermarket. Nov 2009.

The property is very nice, however having guinea fowl in the garden and leaving deposits of excreta on the path, made it quite difficult for us getting in & out of the bungalow without leaving anything inside on the carpet. There were no instructions for the microwave or cooker on how they worked, which would have been helpful. Sept 2009.

  16. It was lovely and peaceful, very relaxing and there was beautiful gardens and countryside. If you require somewhere with the above this is the place to go , lots of places to visit as well. July 2009.

  18. Lovely cottage with enclosed garden was ideal for our 1 year old who just started walking. Dated decor but had everything we needed. Aug 2009.
  19. Great holiday, owners on site and available if needed. Garden great to sit in and watch the wild life. Location remote but only five minutes from the main A38 road. Don’t be put of by it having an ARGA in the kitchen, it also have’s an electric cooker for the standard urbanite, thank goodness. May 2009.
  20. The owner’s were excellent hosts and even took the trouble to drive us round the property on his 4x4 as I could not get around on my wheelchair. I loved seeing the deer in the late afternoon. March 2009.
