Property Description

In the village of Porlock on Exmoor National Park and nestling between Porlock Hill and the sea, 1 mile, these converted ships mews, formerly stables, and detached dormer bungalow offer sea views of Porlock Bay and make an excellent holiday location to enjoy the natural wonders of Exmoor and the dramatic coastline in this region. There is superb scenery and walking on the South West Coastal Path or inland on the moors, and many places to visit to make a memorable holiday. The Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, famous for the Watermeet Gorge (NT), valley of the rocks and the funicular cliff railway are well worth a visit, or looking towards Minehead, you can go back in time on the scenic West Somerset Steam Railway, or visit the enchanting medieval Dunster Castle (NT), with its beautiful terraced gardens, Deer Park and Mill making for an interesting day out. Nearer home you can wine and dine in the owner’s adjacent public house and restaurant, the 13th-century Ship Inn, or enjoy the fine selection of unusual shops in this pretty traditional village. There is also fishing, golf, horse riding and cycling all available, or further afield the resorts of Ilfracombe, Combe Martin and Woolacombe are well worth a visit. Shops 200 yards, pub/restaurant 100 yards.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen/bedroom area with double bed. Shower room with toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Spacious and comfortable, although everything is in one large room apart from bathroom. Facilities for self catering are sufficient but limited (electric hob and combination microwave overn). Great breakfast in the pub across the carpark. Location is fantastic with a distant sea view from outside the door and easy travel to the coast and Exmoor. June 2012.
  2. The property was excellent. Very comfortable and spacious and had a very authentic feel about it, as from its time as a previous stable. The property was well located for the village and surrounding countryside locations of Bossington, Lynmouth, Minehead, as well as the harbour weir. There were also lots of opputunities for walks in the local countryside. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday and very relaxing on the whole. June 2012.
  3. Excellent location. Friendly locals. Good bike trails and wonderful scenery. Feb 2012.
  4. Ideal for walking and dogs. Friendly welcome all over Porlock. Tourist information very good. The Royal Oak gives visiting dogs a treat! Sept 2011.
  5. The facilities were limited as there was just the one room with a kitchenette. The television was in the wrong position and would benefit from being moved to a more central position. The living area could do with a coffee table near the sofa to make it more useful. Sept 2011.
  6. Wonderful place, peaceful, comfortable & well equipped. Lovely views and close to local pub which serves lovely food and great service. Would highly recommend the Mews. April 2011.
  7. It was clean and very light, and close to the shops. Oct 2010.
  8. Very good standard and very clean. Sept 2010.
  9. Perfect for a few days to get away from things and great for the dog. July 2010.
  10. The property was very clean and a good relaxing base for our holiday. A good welcome in most of the pubs for our dog a most enjoable hoiday. April 2010.
  11. The Ships Mews was perfect for a weekend getaway for myself and my husband and our dog. If you like rugged landscapes and plenty of walking then this is the place to be. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet and the village was very quaint and friendly. Will be going back some point soon. A big thank you!!! Jan 2008.
  12. It was a superb holiday and the owners of the pub next door were so helpful. They offered us a cooked breakfast whenever we wanted one and the fact that there was a play area at the pub was also fantastic. We would definitely go again and my parents may be booking up The Ships Mews as they love walking, etc. Porlock and the surrounding areas are beautiful. Thanks. Aug 2006.
  13. If you are worried about the fact this property is located in close proximity to a public house then please do not, the food and hospitality were excellent and at no time were we disturbed by customers. May 2008.
