Property Description

In a tranquil setting, surrounded by unspoilt countryside, this beautifully presented, detached barn conversion, dating back to 1867, has undergone sympathetic and extensive renovation. The property has been featured in the 25 Beautiful Homes magazine (July 2008) and the Homebuilding & Renovating magazine (June 2006). Set in the grounds of the owners’ home, the barn is approached by a private driveway and boasts its own garden of approximately ¼ acre, with mature trees and flower beds. The holiday property retains much charm and character - with oak beams, oak floors in the bedrooms, and an oak staircase that leads to a galleried landing which can be viewed from the open-plan living/dining area and kitchen below, and the structure of the green oak frame can be seen right up to roof level. The comfort of underfloor heating below natural stone tiles has been incorporated for most of the ground floor. Moorhouse Barn enjoys wonderful views of Glastonbury Tor from the copse adjacent to the property, where sunsets can be watched. The Mendip Hills and surrounding countryside offer excellent walking whilst horse riding and cycling are also available. Golf is available locally, or, for the fishing enthusiast, there is the River Brue nearby. Pilton, the site of the Glastonbury Festival and Millfield School are 3 miles. Enjoy the spectacular south west winter carnivals which take place at Glastonbury, Wells, Bridgwater and the surrounding towns. The cathedral city of Wells is just 7 miles, and Cheddar, with its famous gorge, is within an easy drive, offering excellent day trips. There are National Trust properties and gardens in the area including Montecute House, Stourhead, West Pennard Court Barn, King Johns Hunting Lodge, Treasurer’s House, Barrington Court and Stoke-sub-Hamdon Priory. The North Somerset Coast can be reached within one hour. Numerous country pubs and restaurants are within easy reach. Shop ¼ mile.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. This is a family cottage that suits all, the wet room downstairs helps with any older members of the family who find stairs a problem, also having a bedroom downstairs was great too. The sofas were comfortable and the overall feel of the cottage was relaxed making it easy to settle into your holiday. Even though the owners were next door you were not disturbed at all and the setting was wonderful and secluded. A lovely central place to discover Somerset from and the owners were very polite and helpful. April 2012.
  2. Great location for our family get together. The house was spacious and comfortable. The dogs next door were a great source of entertainment for our 18 month old grandson. We were blessed with amazing weather while we were there, so we were able to use the garden too. Lots of things to do in the region, although most are a 45 minute drive away. March 2012.
  3. Spacious well maintained property. Would definitely use again. Nov 2011.
  4. Beautiful property in a great location. This cottage will certainly take some beating, in fact, we will no doubt be back! Sept 2011.
  5. Very spacious and cosy barn conversion in a nice area of the country, run by pleasant owners who live in the house next door. Both properties are in the middle of a triangle of roads so you have to be careful with access and exit. The facilities are first rate, but we would have liked to have seen a larger TV to go with the size of the property, and possibbly Sky tv, just for those less pleasant times. The two decking areas are fantastic, and we really enjoyed breakfast on the small one and evening meals on the larger of the two. The roads surrounding the property are suprisingly noisy, considerig where it is, but the local towns of Glastonbury and Street are delightful. We would like to explore other area’s of the country on our next holiday, but should we return to that area, we would consider rebooking this property. July 2011.
  6. Beautifully presented, every convenience considered superb outlook. Recommended! June 2011.
  7. Superb barn convertion one of the best we have had and the owners where very helpful and friendly also plenty of space to move around in and loved the dogs too from next door. Aug 2010.
  8. It was spacious so that each couple could find their own ’space’ if needed, yet intimate enough for us to feel cohesive as a group. The kitchen was very well equipped and the welcoming bottle of wine was a lovely gesture. It was spotlessly clean throughout. June 2010.
  9. Decorated to a very high standard, well-laid out and exceptionally well-equipped compared to other properties we have visited. May 2010.
  10. High standard -very well finished. Comfortable and secluded. April 2010.
  11. Wonderful property, great location, great views, everything great. April 2010.
  12. Beautifully laid out with all amenities! March 2010.
  13. Because this was a Christmas holiday for a large family, the open plan configuration downstairs was particularly useful. Dec 2009.
  14. The Barn was super and just right for families. Spacious and really well appointed. We took 3 grandchildren and there was plenty to do and the owners were very friendly, the holiday was a delight. Aug 2009.
  15. Moderrn, clean - truly a home from home. So often the reality of holiday accommodation does not live up to the brochure - in this case it easily surpassed it. Aug 2009.
  16. A beautiful house, and a very warm welcome from Gary, Anne and the dogs! July 2009.
  17. Moorhouse Barn was a wonderful getaway retreat, both the barn and its furnishings were of a very high standard. The owners were delightful and very helpful. We would definitely return! May 2009.
  18. Property exceeded expectations and was very clean. Owners were very helpful and the kids loved playing with their dogs. May 2009.
  19. The pictures of the cottage do not do it justice it is much more beautiful when you actually see it. April 2009.
  20. An excellent house for any family get together at any time of the year. We loved the decor, the furnishings and the wet-room. All in all it felt really luxurious. Feb 2009.
