This lovely detached holiday home is ideally located to discover Durham, Northumberland and the Dales, offering tranquil countryside and city life, with an abundance of wildlife and rare birds such as a pair of red kites. Offering tasteful, contemporary living accommodation, just 2 minutes by car from Beamish Museum and Tanfield Steam Engine Railway. Beamish Museum, the open-air ’Living Museum of the North’ which recreates life in the North East over various points in history, including a working coal mine, village, farm and tram system, makes a great day out. The Beamish Valley is one of the most important archaeological landscapes in England. A picturesque river setting, it boasts country inns and gastro pubs serving home cooked food. Beamish has easy access to the A1, which will take you further north to Alnwick and the Heritage Coast, where a day can be spent exploring the many historic castles and friendly villages set amongst unspoilt golden sandy beaches. Not too far away is the Metro Centre - one of the largest shopping centres in Europe with an abundance of shops and eateries. For cricket fans, Durham County Cricket Club’s ground, ’The Riverside’, is a short drive away at Chester-le-Street. The cottage is in an ideal location for exploring all the north eastern counties, while the city of Durham with its lovely cathedral and river walks should not be missed. Shops ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Ground floor: Dining room/kitchen. 1 double bedroom with additional double sofa bed, French door and en-suite bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet. Wooden floors throughout. First floor: Living room. 1 double (6ft) bedroom with en-suite bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Multi-fuel burner in kitchen (initial fuel included). Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Three Freeview TVs. DVD and small library. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Freezer. Wi-fi. Two sitting-out areas with furniture. Parking (2 cars). No smoking. Friday to Friday.

  3. Mole Hill Cottage is a lovely cottage, somewhat difficult to find as we followed our Satnav - so make sure you follow the instructions you receive through. Set in the owners land the cottage is detached and next to some stables. Plenty of space to park next to the cottage. The accommodation itself was lovely, a warm and relaxing kitchen greeted us with a woodburning stove. The second bedroom was off from the kitchen and was comfortable with an ensuite bathroom. The living room was upstairs and was light and airy, comfy chairs a large TV and an area to set up a computer with wifi connection. The main bedroom has the most comfortable super kingsize bed we’ve ever slept in! There is a pub within easy walking distance which serves great food or is open for a decent pint and some bar games. We had two great days at the Beamish Open Air Museum which is minutes away by car and apparently within walking distance, the Museum’s tickets are annual ones so you can return as many times as you want in the week. We went to Belsay, Castle Hall and Gardens which were well worth a visit, we visited Aydon Castle, Chesters Roman Fort and Corbridge Roman Town. We popped to Chester-le-Street which is OK but nothing too much out of the ordinary and visited the Angel of the North. Overall a great holiday which we thoroughly enjoyed the only negative was on arrival the owners dogs were roaming freely and we have a rather nervous 11 year old when it comes to dogs. Thankfully they were friendly enough. It’s also worth nothing that due to the cottages location there is rather a lot of noise from a nearby road. But we soon got used to it! April 2012.
  4. Molehill Cottage was the perfect getaway! It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped and extremely clode to a wonderful pub that did stupendous food! What more could you ask? It was also very clode the wonderful Beamish Living Museum which was well worth a day out just for thr dripping cooked chips! I would recommend this cottage to anyone as a marvellous place for a relaxing break! Dec 2011.
  5. Loved the location, round the corner from Beamish and a great place to call in for a drink (next door). Would not hesitate to recommend this lovely cottage, really could not fault it. One thing we will always remember about our beautiful bedroom is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. Oct 2011.

The area really lovely so many nice places to visit - the Causey Inn five minutes down the road well worth a visit lovely food. Sept 2011.

  8. Absolutely fantastic welcome including a very yummy carrot cake. The location of this property is ideal for exploring the region and local area, with Beamish Open Air Museum on the doorstep (easily walkable in 20 minutes). The cottage was fabulous with every modern facility and convenience that you could want; the WiFi access was very useful for planning days out, not something that I would have looked for in a cottage before, but will be from now on.   9. Mole Hill cottage is by far the best cottage we have ever stayed in. It is spotlessly clean and well equipped, the wi-fi was much appreciated. The location is superb, Newcastle, Durham, metro centre and Whitley Bay all a short drive away. The welcome groceries and flowers were a lovely touch and the owner was very friendly and helpful. We would love to come here again. July 2011.

  11. This was without doubt the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in - and we have stayed in a lot of different cottages. The cottage was luxuriously appointed and well equipped with everything you could need and more! We especially liked the grounds of the cottage as there were picturesque views and a walk through some pretty woods which took us right to the grounds of Beamish museum and only took about 25 minutes.
