Property Description

Meadow Views is a pretty, mid-terrace, Victorian cottage retaining a wealth of period features set in the hamlet of Lower Waterston, less than 2 miles from Puddletown. The interior is decorated with antiques and little touches which help to create a true ‘home away from home’ holiday experience so that guests can settle in quickly and relax. Whatever the season, there are stunning views over the gardens at the back to the nearby River Piddle and water meadows beyond. Finches, woodpeckers, house martins, pheasants, grouse, owls, bustards, rabbits, deer and badgers have all been seen from the upstairs windows. Guests invariably wake up to the sound of cattle lowing in the nearby fields. Many of Thomas Hardy’s novels such as ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ refer to places in the surrounding countryside. For example, Puddletown became Weatherby, and Hardy based Weatherby Farm on Waterston Manor to which this cottage is one of the three farm worker’s cottages built in 1885. The cottage lies 5 miles east of Dorchester with its many attractions and excellent facilities, yet is within easy reach of the coast and Lyme Regis, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Chesil Beach and Weymouth. The area caters for a wide variety of interests locally. Popular pastimes are walking, bird-watching, visiting RSPB reserves, historic houses, museums, beautiful gardens and, of course, picturesque pubs serving excellent food. Family attractions include Monkey World, the Abbotsbury Swannery and Walking with Llamas. Shop and pub/restaurant 2 miles.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room/kitchen with tiled floor. 1 deep step down to utility room with shower cubicle and toilet. Steep stairs to first floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin (can be double on request). Bathroom with bath, shower attachment and toilet.

Gas central heating, electricity and bed linen included. Freesat TV. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher in utility. Fridge/freezer. Enclosed lawned garden with furniture. Parking (2 cars). No children under 4 years. No smoking.

  1. Very cosy cottage, very roomy, although quite cold while we were there it really warm. Everything there for your needs, lovely pictures and ornaments around. Really enjoyed it. Nov 2012.
  2. Nice roomy cottage in a quiet location. Had everything we needed for a comfortable week. May 2012.
  3. Top rate excellence... well deserving of its gold award... only thing missing is Wifi.... a real home from home .... a wonderful weeks holiday. March 2012.
  4. One of the best cottages we have stayed in since using your company. The owner was very helpful, we found it had a gold award which was duly justified. Feb 2012.
  5. Lovely well equipped cottage everything you need and more. 5 minutes drive from main road so easy access to lots of Dorset’s lovely sights. Make sure you have sat nav to find cottage especially if you arrive in the dark. Dec 2012.
  6. Everything was great, I wouldn’t change anything. Nov 2011.
  7. The cottage was absolutely beautiful, really warm and cosy. It was very evident that this is very much a cherished family home. It had absolutely everything you could possibly need. The location is superb, not only because it is very peaceful and pretty but also because it is great for getting to main roads to visit the wider area. The owner couldn’t have been more helpful and all in all it was wonderful relaxing break and I would thoroughly recommend it! Sept 2011.
  8. The cottage is cosy, garden is small but very nice. Front side bedroom is a bit noisy sometimes because the road is busy in the morning. On the backside it is quiet, in the garden as well. The cottage has its own parking for two cars, so you don’t have to park on roadside. The owner called us the week before we went to England, we felt very welcome. Overall: lovely, we will go back! July 2011.
  9. Best cottage we’ve ever stayed at. Truely was a home from home. May 2011.
  10. Thank you for asking me to provide feedback on the cottage above. I must say we found the cottage really comfortable and suited our needs very well. We were going to provide feedback to the owner regarding our stay. things. Although well kitted out we found we could not find the handle for the grill pan, which made it difficult to get it out from under the grill when hot. This was the only thing we found. Otherwise the cottage was warm, water was hot and was overrall very comfortable. The location was excellent and the information provided before our stay by Penny the owner and in the cottage was excellent. March 2011.
  11. It was very clean and warm for winter break and had everything you would want in it to make your holiday perfect. Lovely walks direct from your door and not far to drive to the coast. Dec 2010.
