Property Description

Traditional country cottage.

Semi detached character cottage for 2.

Rose and March Cottages are adjacent to the owner’s residence. Situated in their own paddock, they are semi-detached with whitewashed stone walls, each with its own separate entrance. They are full of character with beams and open fires.
Oughterard, on the shores of Lough Corrib, is a lovely historic village, with its thatched pub, traditional stone fronts and a 19th century church, set at the gateway of the beautiful Connemara Mountain area. Its many shops, pubs and restaurants make it the ideal location to experience a small Irish village and a base from which to explore the breathtaking scenery.
The lovely Owenriff River runs through Oughterard, starting in the Connemara mountains and ending its journey, at the edge of town, into Lough Corrib, which runs alongside Oughterard, and is the largest lake in Ireland. It offers some of the most spectacular views around and is a renowned fishing location. The fresh water trout and salmon bring fishermen from all over the world to try their luck or to savour it in the Oughterard restaurants.
There are many lovely drives around the area as well as trails for walking and hiking. Famous tourist spots within close driving distance include Aughnanure Castle, Kylemore Abbey and Inchagoill Island. It is also only 23 miles from Galway City, the third largest city in the Republic, offering souvenir shopping as well as a taste of European styles.
The Connemara Mountains, just west of town, provide some of the most breathtaking scenery with rocky landscapes, scattered lakes and sheep dotting the mountainsides.
Rose and March Cottages are semi-detached cottages situated adjacent to the owner’s residence and paddock, each with its own separate entrance and parking areas. They are full of character, treating the visitor to the country life delights of open fires and wooden beams. Set in a pleasant rural location, one mile down a lane from the main road and 3.5 miles from the lovely historic village of Oughterard by the shores of Lough Corrib, the second largest lake in Ireland. Oughterard hosts shops, pubs, restaurants and two churches, and makes the ideal location to experience an Irish village, and a base from which to explore the surrounding, breathtaking scenery. The area is a renowned fishing location, its rivers and lakes sporting trout and salmon, attracting fishermen from all over the world to try their fishing skills. Famous local tourist spots are Aughanure Castle, Glengowla Mines, or the summer boat trips to Inchagoill Island and Cong, and the Bridgits Gardens all just a few minutes’ drive. Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Had a enjoyable stay, excellent cottage open fire bonus, you won’t be disappointed thanks Michael & Violet. May 2012.
  2. The area around Oughterard and the lanes around the cottage are well worth spending a few days in. The cottage owner can give much useful information on where to go and what to see. The temptation is to drive many miles to other areas when much beautiful countryside is very close. These are good shops and pubs in both Moycullen and Oughterard. We liked the Boat Inn Oughterard for good food but there were many more we did’t have time to try. Sept 2011.
  3. Beautiful cosy cottage. Big enough for two people and one pet to use as a base for touring Galway area and scenic Connemara. Scenery very picturesque. Very relaxing holiday. Host family very welcoming and friendly. Aug 2011.
