Property Description

This 15th-century manor house, with its own pretty garden, has tremendous character, a friendly atmosphere and is extremely well furnished. The spacious beamed sitting room is set on the first floor to take full advantage of the wonderful coastal views. Attached to Manor Cottage (GAX) but completely self-contained, it enjoys a picturesque setting on the green, in the peaceful Cornish hamlet of West Pentire – only 300 yards down a cliff path from acres of clean golden sand (see Manor Cottage GAX). Children and adults alike can sample the delights of rock pool fishing, exploring caves or surfing. By hiring a pony it is possible to ride cross-country to the beaches of Porth Joke and Holywell, without the need to cross any roads. Set in the heart of National Trust land, the holiday property is surrounded by magnificent walking country, and is an ideal base from which to explore Cornwall’s splendid countryside and unique history as well as its magnificent coastline. The immediate area is renowned for its superb sandy surfing beaches, punctuated by craggy headlands. Perranporth (named after the patron saint of tin miners) is 10 miles to the south, famous for its drifting sands which have twice buried the church. Lifeguards patrol the wide sandy beach in summer, and surf boards and wet suits can be hired by the day. Further along is St Agnes with its superb coastal views, while to the south lies Truro, the unofficial capital of Cornwall, offering good shops and restaurants, a splendid cathedral and The Royal Cornwall Museum with extensive displays of the county. The historic and family friendly Bowgie Inn is adjacent and offers a wide selection of food as well as local beers and ciders, and sports fans can enjoy Sky coverage. A general store (open in season) can be found nearby, and Crantock village and its shops are only 1 mile away. The lively resort of Newquay, with its cliffs honeycombed by numerous caves, is 5 miles across the estuary to the north. Public swimming pool with slides at Hendra Caravan Club about 10 minutes’ drive. Shops 1 mile.

  1. Wonderful location. Lovely atmospheric house. Brilliant new oven. Best thing for children; crabbing in the rock pools. Best day out; Padstow. Aug 2012.
  2. Property is ideal for walking and surfing, and the free use of the pool at the hotel opposite is brilliant, particularly for young children when the weather is wet. Oct 2011.
  3. Excellent location for families and pets. No need to drive to beach which is ideal in school holidays. Separate bedroom areas for different groups within family. Use of leisure facilities at Crantock Hotel bonus. Quirky and relaxing house and garden. Believe these are new owners, don’t change house too much. Not for tall people. July 2011.
  4. Spacious with plenty of bathrooms and decent sized bedrooms. Dec 2010.

  8. Excellent location. The very best thing about this property is its location and access to beaches and coastal path. The garden was superb. The house was somewhat quaint and rambling but obviously had some history. My tall children suffered somewhat from the low ceilings, but the ability to accommodate our whole family around a single dining table was good, as was the upstairs sitting room with a view. It has all the facilities we needed. July 2009.
  9. Location and number accommodated was what we wanted. July 2009.
  10. Lovely old house, full of character. Close to a beautiful beach and to family friendly pub. Ideal for a large family holiday. May 2008.
  11. All 13 of us really enjoyed accommodation, location was excellent. We would have liked facility to play cd or have a radio. March 2008.
  12. The position of The Manor House is wonderful and has the most beautiful garden. A few touches to make this more comfortable would make it perfect. Sept 2007.

  14. Wonderful views, fantastic gardens! June 2006.
  15. Position and outlook were great. When the weather was bad it was nice to look out of the window and see the waves. We keep coming back, and we still will. Aug 2008.
  16. Great location, being very close to Crantock beach. Bowgie Inn very good and accommodating, excellent sunday roast ! The Smugglers Den Inn nearby in Cubert for good food. Nov 2008.
