Property Description

The cottages at Luccombe Manor (refs EWV, EWW & EWX) are three little gems, offering guests the perfect, comfortable haven after a long day of exploring the varied and rugged countryside that surrounds them. All three cottages are finished to a high standard with every thought being given to guests’ comfort and enjoyment of the cottages. Set in the pretty National Trust hamlet of Luccombe, situated between Minehead and Porlock, the cottages are set in the grounds of an impressive former rectory. (Manor Cottage, ref EWV, adjoins the owners’ home). Internally the cottages have all the modern convenience one might expect and the cottages are surrounded by the well-maintained grounds of the main house. The comfortable beds, well-fitted kitchens and inviting living space make these cottages a must for anyone wanting something a little bit special for their holiday. Besides plenty of walking from the front door, the cottages are ideally positioned to go out and explore the varied and stunning landscape on offer as well as many attractions. There is superb scenery and walking on the South West Coastal Path or inland on Exmoor to places like Tarr Steps and the village of Withypool. Visit the Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, famous for the Watersmeet Gorge (NT), Valley of the Rocks and the venicular cliff railway. Looking towards Minehead, there is the promenade to enjoy as well as a good array of shops and other amenities. The West Somerset Railway is worth a visit for those with an interest in stream engines. Dunster Castle (NT) and village, with its beautiful terraced gardens, deer park and mill will make for an interesting day out as well as Porlock Weir where a pub lunch can be enjoyed overlooking the sea. Just over the other side of the A39 is the National Trust village of Selworthy with its renowned tea room. There are beaches at Dunster and Blue Anchor for all to enjoy. For more active guests, golf, fishing and horse riding can all be found locally. Shop and pub 2 miles.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. This was one of the best cottages that we have ever stayed in. The owners went out of their way to go ’the extra mile’ with lots of added extrsa, which were not expected but most appreciated. I won’t say what they were, as I don’t want to spoil the surprise! Sept 2012.
  2. This is a gem of a cottage! Newly & expensively furnished and with everything you can think of in the kitchen....even salt & pepper, oil & all sorts of treats. The owners Julia & Peter are a really lovely couple and had left us 4 big home-made scones, jam & cream plus a bottle of wine! The beds are very comfortable. The garden is beautiful - you feel as though you are lord or lady of the Manor! Extremely quiet in a chocolate-box thatched cottage sort of village. I went to the church too on the Sunday and had a big welcome. The village is a mile from the A39 and places worth visiting are Porlock, Allerford, Selworthy, Horner - within a mile or two - and we also enjoyed driving/walking up Dunkery Beacon just behind the village. (Mobile signal poor until you reach A39). Lots of walking opportunities directly from village. You really don’t have to drive far - if at all. A very memorable & special holiday. May 2012.
  3. A lovely, well appointed cottage in the Exmoor foothills. Plenty of walks - gentle or energetic - within easy reach including some from the front door. Or you could just relax and enjoy the peace. April 2012.
