Nearby Neufchâtel has been christened the ‘Paris Larder’ as it was once famed for the production of much of the capital’s specialist foods. The port town of Dieppe with its lively Saturday market is well worth a visit as is the city of Amiens which boasts the largest cathedral in France. For those who long for the seaside, the cosmopolitan resort town of Le Tréport is also within easy driving distance.

Location: 6km from Neufchâtel-en-Bray (all facilities, shops, restaurants), 40km from Dieppe (fishing port, seafood restaurants, historic market town).

  1. The gite was very well presented and equipped with everything you could possibly need, from a lovely gift of wine to the supply of logs in the shed. We quickly got used to the church bells going throughout the day,which also rang for 5 minutes at 7am and 7pm (not sure if this always happens!).Woke us the first morning, but hardly noticed the other days. There was noise from a party over the road (a wedding at the mairie?) one night, but amazing birdsong in the large garden made up for it. Lots of places to see in beautiful countryside,like the nearby chateau de Mesnieres-en-Bray,where a guide unlocked rooms to show us the restoration in progress, and Dieppe for a seafood lunch. On the way to Dieppe don’t miss the Chateau D’Arque, a pre-1066 massive ruined castle on the hillside up a narrow drive - it’s amazing to walk round the steep-sided moat, and there are fantastic views. We arrived late on Thursday night and all the bars and restaurants in Neufchatel were shut, except two hotels which were full,but we luckily found a lovely lady in her simple but nice restaurant Aux Trois Pommes in Forges Les Eaux where we gratefull ate steak frites and drank cider. The TV has English channels if you are interested but we only used it to watch Chelsea win the UEFA cup! Will definitely come again, this is my husband’s favourite gite of all the ones we have stayed in over the years.Our security deposit was returned very promptly too, so thank you for a fabulous stay which we couln’t fault in any way.   3. This cottage is well maintained and came with everything we needed. Although in a quiet rural location, it is just a short drive from interesting towns including Rouen, Dieppe and Eu. The fascinating Baie de Somme area is a little further away but still an easy day trip. March 2012.
  4. Excellent character property with 3 double bedrooms. Owners very helpful and handover very easy. Property 10 minute drive from Neufchatel en Bray where good local amenities. Rouen and Dieppe close by. Sept 2011.
  5. Fitted out with style and comfort, everything we needed was there, the owner has taken great care in stocking the home, bottle of wine on arrival lovely touch, appreaciated after long day. Could not fault anything. Aug 2010.
  6. Good peaceful location, nice local walks, well equipped, log burner a boon on chilly evenings - good supply of logs. Large garden. nice view. Old property well converted, but not suitable for disabled, with steps in kitchen and ground floor toilet/shower room. Low beams upstairs possible problem for tall people. May 2010.

  8. This property was warm, comfortable and very well equipped. The location was quiet but well within reach of main cities and towns. The neighbour was lovely and popped over to welcome us when we arrived. Nuefchatel-en-Bray is a friendly town - especially the newsagent who did his best to secure us a copy of the Daily Mail every day! We had a lovely stay and are hoping to return in October. March 2010.
  9. Lovely layout of a traditional French cottage thoughtfully updated but retains its charm. Great garden space to the rear. Needs a sign to say mind your head if over 5 foot 8 on the kitchen door!! Also dig them crazy bells from the church. Aug 2009.
