Property Description

Macs House is a delightful 100 year old, spacious, detached holiday property which has been significantly modernised and extended over the years. Ideal for family holidays, it is situated in a very peaceful and rural position on the Shropshire/Herefordshire border, a quarter of a mile down a farm track, surrounded by rolling fields, and a huge lawned garden, great for children to work off excess energy and perfect for dining al-fresco. This spacious house has four bedrooms in the main house and a further two bedrooms in a separate annexe, together with a games room. Walking is available from the house - indeed the Herefordshire Trail passes a few hundred yards away. In the nearby village of Bromfield, the Food Centre with a range of farm produce is well worth a visit, and just five miles away is the lovely market town of Ludlow, once described by Betjeman as ‘the most perfect town in England’. With its wonderful medieval and Georgian architecture, including a cathedral-sized parish church, ruined castle and local museum, Ludlow has much to offer the visitor including a wide range of places to shop or eat. Stokesay Castle at Craven Arms and Berrington Hall (NT) near Leominster are a short drive away, and both the Ironbridge Gorge and Severn Valley Railway, perfect for family days out, are within easy reach. The quirky town of Bishop’s Castle with its House on Crutches and variety of small shops tumbling down the high street is well worth a visit, as is Bridgnorth on the River Severn and the city of Hereford with its fascinating cathedral. Shops 6 miles.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Helpful contact person. Lovely place, homely and special. Would recommend. Dec 2011.
  2. This was a fantastic location for a family reunion to celebrate a diamond wedding anniversary. The "cottage" was really comfortable and well-presented, and there was plenty of space for the 12 of us to spread out. We didn’t feel as if beds had been crammed into every square inch, like in some properties. The grounds were lovely and there were some good walks from the door. We were also able to get a taxi into Ludlow for an evening meal which saved us from driving. One tip - take a torch or two -it’s REALLY dark at night so if you’re sleeping in the annexe you need one to find your way. Sept 2011.
  3. Fabulous place to stay with a large group of friends with children. Lovely quiet location very close to pretty Ludlow. Lovely large rooms and sociable lounge and dining room/kitchen. Slight negative was quite heavy oil fumes in the kitchen/diner from heating system, apparently temporary. Overall fabulous find! March 2011.
  4. Good, spacious, cosy. Feb 2011.
  5. Large enough for party of 10. Feb 2011.
  6. Informal and comfortable. Spacious and well-equipped. Dec 2010.
  7. Really lovely cottage in great and peaceful location, really well equipped and maintained. Fantastic living space for a get-together with friends or family - really helped make my husband’s 40th extra special. Nov 2010.
  8. We had a fabulous time in the cottage, all was a perfect layout for our hen weekend with big light in the kitchen diner and the table fit us perfectly! We had a Murder Mystery dinner party on the Saturday night which was fabulous and the log fire was a perfect after dinner retreat! Bedrooms were perfect, especially the main bedroom for the Hen! Oct 2010.
  9. Quiet very rural location down bumpy 500m track; good base for walking holiday. May 2010.
  10. The setting was beautiful. The cottage I would change the rating to 5*. It was spotlessly clean and the owners had thought of everything right down to a selection of phone chargers for guests. There were ten of us in the accommodation and we all agreed way beyond our expectations and we hope to return. I would appreciate it if these comments were also passed to the owners. Thank you. April 2010.
  11. Spacious, light, very comfortable with thoughtful additions eg toys for children, open fire ready stacked for use. Excellent location. Feb 2010.
  12. The interior was nicely decorated and spacious. Surrounding areas perfect for afternoon walks and Ludlow a short drive away. Helpful caretaker. Jan 2010.
  13. Generous accommodation in lovely setting, private but only a short distance from Ludlow. Stylishly furnished and uncluttered - wonderful for us to have such a civilised TV-free drawing room. Rayburn and open fire very welcoming. Spacious bathrooms and huge main bedroom an added luxury. Dog very pleased to be invited too and settled in very quickly. Just our sort of break. Oct 2009.
