Property Description

Peacefully located amidst arable farmland lies Mackinder Farms; a collection of cottages and contrasting eco-friendly lodges. The holiday cottages (W42586, W42941, W42942), lovingly converted from 18th-century farm buildings, have been carefully renovated retaining many original features including beams and roof trusses and exposed brick and stone work, whilst the superb Nordic pine log cabins (W43008, W43009, W43170 and W43171) offer eco friendly holiday accommodation with grass roofs and geo-thermal underfloor heating. Each cottage has been tastefully furnished to a very good standard and offer superb facilities. Each lodge enjoys a private hot tub perfect for relaxing and soaking up the tranquillity of the surroundings. There are separate garden areas and great care has been taken to ensure guests enjoy privacy.
Selby Canal is nearby and fishing is available, whilst Selby Golf Club is just a short walk and visitors receive a warm welcome on the course and in the clubhouse. Set between Brayton and Gateforth, the area is ideal for walkers and cyclists with the Selby Horseshoe and Selby and York Cycle path running close by. An abundance of wildflowers, birds and butterflies can be enjoyed in the Nature Reserves at Barlow Common, Skipwith and Derwent Valley. RSPB experts run guided walks around Fairburn Ings, 10 miles, and events including family fun days are organised throughout the year.
Medieval York is just 17 miles away, with easy access to the city from the designer outlet park and ride, 15 miles. Hull with its futuristic aquarium, Leeds and the Royal Armouries and the elegant spa town of Harrogate are all within an hour’s drive. The coastal resorts of Filey, Scarborough and Whitby are easily accessible. Shop 1.25 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile. NB: Properties W42941 and W42942 have an interconnecting door and can be booked together to accommodate up to 10 guests.

Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Underfloor central heating included. DVD. Enclosed lawned garden with patio, sitting-out area and furniture.Friday to Friday.

All properties: Electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. Electric cooker. Shared laundry room with coin-operated washing machine and tumble dryer. Parking (2 cars). Natural water supply from borehole. No smoking.

  2. This a fantastic barn conversion which the owners have lovingly restored. The photos are adequate but do not give you the actual ’wow’ that comes as soon as you open the door. It is very well equipped and tastefully styled and is extremely comfortable thanks to the brilliant underfloor heating system- 20 degrees day and night and not a radiator in sight. Excellent welcome pack and personal visit from James the owner. Thanks for a wonderful stay and thanks for being ’dog friendly’. April 2012.
  3. An excellent property in a quiet, but convenient, location. Very warm welcome from James Middlebrook who explained everything we needed to know. The only downside was the weather but, as we used to live in the area, we weren’t taken by surprise. April 2012.

  5. We thought the standard of the accommodation was very high and would recommend the property to others visiting the area. Well located for getting to the coast and particularly for going into York (via Park and Ride). The idea of putting an OS Landranger map in the property was excellent as it really helped us when going out exploring the surrounding area by foot. Jan 2012.

James, the owner, was fantastic and because the laundry room wasn’t quite ready he even persuaded his lovely mum to do some washing for us.
