Property Description

From its idyllic setting in a small bay 200 yards from the shore, a complete coastal panorama can be enjoyed across the Sound of Sleat from this substantial holiday home: there are magnificent views northwards to Ben Sgritheall, Loch Hourn and Knoydart; eastwards to Loch Nevis, and southwards to Ardnamurchan Point. Beautifully appointed and extremely well-equipped (with three en-suite bathrooms), it is approached by a shared driveway, and stands in 3 acres of wild private garden with a small stream and a little glen. As well as the stunning sea views, the principal rooms offer the chance to observe an abundance of wildlife, including herons, curlews, eagles and even the occasional otter.
Delicious meals can be enjoyed at five hotels, all within 7 miles: Toravaig Hotel, Ardvasar Hotel, The Isle Ornsay Hotel, Duisdale Hotel and Kinloch Lodge Hotel, the first hotel on Skye to be awarded a Michelin Star for its astounding restaurant in 2010. Day-trips can take in the Talisker Distillery, Dunvegan Castle and Portree, whilst (via ferry) touring can be enjoyed to Eigg, Rhum, Lochalsh – and even Fort William on the scenic West Highland line. Boat trips can be taken from Elgol (an hour’s drive) to magical Loch Coruisk in the heart of the Cuillin. Very popular in recent years, the sea safari boat trip from Armadale pier (3 miles), to the Old Forge on Knoydart for lunch or dinner, or the longer trip to look at the dolphins, Minke and hump back whales (regularly seen in July and August). Walks from the most demanding on the Black Cuillin which dominates this island to gentle strolls whilst good walking can be found in the more immediate area around the cottage itself. Kyle of Lochalsh bridge 19 miles. Mallaig ferry 3 miles. Shop 3 miles.

Spacious drawing room with open fire and large bay window overlooking the Sound of Sleat. Elegant dining room. Large conservatory with floor to ceiling windows. Very well-equipped kitchen. Small double bedroom with adjoining shower room with toilet. First floor: Double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and toilet. Two twin bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom and toilet.

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Be under no illusion, this is a lovely home with the most stunning views. Having had the last available week in August and so paid the maximum amount, it was totally worthwhile, from looking at that view whilst eating breakfast to lying in bed listening to the gentle lap of the waves. Ideal base for all seasons. A truly wondeful holiday. Aug 2012.
  2. I don’t think I have ever had such a relaxing holiday in a stunningly beautiful part of the world. The cottage was everything a family of 7 with 2 dogs needed -even my 3 year old didn’t want to leave! Would highly recommend. June 2012.
  3. Wow - what a view. Very comfortable house with everything you would need. Wildlife all around and ultra peaceful. April 2012.
  4. This is set in a truly stunning location. Everything you need is provided. For a large family holiday it is absolutely ideal. Unfortunately one week was not long enough we will be back. April 2012.
  5. Gorgeous house with lots of thoughtful extras. Fabulous setting. Particularly like the book collection! Nov 2010.
  6. There was so much that was unexpected - from all the binoculars, books and music to the games such as carpet bowls and Scoop both of which were played many times! The location was beautiful and the house was perfectly designed with so many windows looking over the bay with seals, otters and many different seabirds. Oct 2010.
  7. Nicely decorated, plenty bathrooms, beautiful view and secluded. July 2010.
  8. Comfortable seating, great views, excellent TV, warm and welcoming. May 2010.
  9. Exceeded expectations. Too many extras to mention. Oct 2009.
  10. We would love to return for a longer period and in better weather in order to explore the mountains. Unfortunately the weather was not as kind as we would have hoped and the opportunity to climb in clear weather was not reliable enough to be able to take the children with us. However, we feel that we made the best of our time by exploring as much of the island as we could by car.. Macinnisfree Cottage is a in a delightful location, and a very comfortable and spacious house. The owner has gone to lengths to think of all the ways to make the stay as easy as possible, which really helps to make the holiday a relaxing experience. Much appreciated. Aug 2009.
  11. The computer with internet access was very useful to find out about information on places we were planning to visit. Excellent widescreen TV also. Good spacious accommodation, excellent views out of the windows. Aug 2009.
  12. A little piece of heaven. The perfect venue for anyone who enjoys peace and tranquility. Great for families, a lovely house in an extraordinary location. March 2008.
  13. A superb house in a breathtaking location, lots of personal touches. March 2008.
  14. Met owner....made us feel very welcome...had a fabulous holiday and will be using you for our next UK holiday. Have recommended you to friends also. Thank you. March 2008.
  15. Absolutely stunning views. March 2008.
  16. Fantastic location with views to die for, peaceful, relaxing and hard to leave! Oct 2007.
  17. Brilliant place to stay if you want comfort, peace and tranquility. April 2007.
  18. Macinnisfree is a truly exceptional property - it is much more like a home, and the owner does so much to ensure that guests have a comfortable, creative holiday in an aesthetically pleasing environment. There are so many touches to inspire - books, music, pictures - and all of a very high quality; the furnishings and facilities are excellent. The setting is amazing - the views across the Sound of Sleat are addictive whatever the weather or time of day! It all makes for a wonderful holiday - and we all had a marvelous time. Many thanks to you and the owner. Oct 2007.
  19. Macinnisfree is the best place I have ever rented anywhere. The setting is stunning, and the property, its furnishings and contents are top quality. It is made very special by the numerous welcoming touches set up by the owner, and Christine who looks after it provides an excellent service. I left a note commenting that ’it is the stuff of which dreams are made’. It is not our first visit and we have booked it again for 2007. Sept 2006.
