Property Description

"Set in glorious countryside... not far from the Jurassic Coast"

Lancombe Country Cottages are set in three acres of glorious Thomas Hardy country, in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in west Dorset, close to the famous World Heritage Jurassic Coast, including the Chesil Beach. The six holiday cottages converted from old barns are set around an attractive courtyard, now a communal lawned area, are all well finished and equipped and provide a relaxing retreat after a day out sightseeing.
All are named after local rivers, offer comfortable accommodation and can be booked individually or together, depending on party numbers. Unwind in the 3 acres of grounds, relax in the heated indoor swimming pool (open every day), perhaps enjoy a sauna, or on a fine day, chill out with a barbecue in a pleasant setting overlooking beautiful Dorset countryside.
Within easy driving distance visitors can explore the stunning Chesil Beach and Jurassic Coast, from Weymouth to the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis, with its harbour and famous Cobb. Enjoy the many little seaside resorts, spectacular scenic coastal walks, fishing, swimming, fossil hunting and attractions such as Abbotsbury Swannery (where the swans may be fed) and Sub-Tropical Gardens, and Bennetts Water Gardens.
There are many historic houses and gardens to visit including Athelhampon House and Gardens, and Kingston Maurward Gardens and Animal Park, as well as family attractions such as Bovington Tank Museum, Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, Monkey World at Wareham and the Sea Life Centre at Weymouth.
The bustling market and county town of Dorchester, 8 miles, with its 18th-century houses, shops, restaurants and market is worth a visit, as is Weymouth with its Georgian seafront, Blue Flag sandy beach and traditional seaside entertainment. Inland there is the famous Cerne Abbas Giant and the quaint historic abbey town of Sherborne. Enjoy golf, fishing, horse riding and go-karting locally. Shops and pubs 2 miles.

Open-plan beamed living/dining room and kitchen area with tiled floor. First floor: Double bedroom with four-poster bed. Single bedroom. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Beautiful area, great cottages, lovely swimming pool, laundry facilities great. Wi-fi access poor and frustrating, office/help minimal and slow. Sofas uncomfortable. Would have appreciated the offer of a stair gate with a one year old running round. Many little details meant we felt very looked after eg tea coffee, travel cot, towels all provided. June 2012.
  2. Absolutely loved it. Would recommend it to anyone and everyone, especially people with dogs. Brilliant quite location. April 2012.
  3. A wonderful location, lovely property furnished throughout in a really homely manner, with some great touches - Christmas decorations in the lounge, dog’s mat, bowl and treats (!). I have never had such a relaxing, away-from-it-all Christmas, and the cottage felt more like a ’real’ home than a rental property. Altogether a thoroughly satisfying experience. Thank you! Dec 2011.
  4. A Small but very well equipped comfortable cottage, perfect for 3! If I will say one thing, the kitchen needs some tongs and sharper knives, as we cooked every night. Sept 2011.
  5. Lovely property in a beautiful setting. Very safe for families with young children and extremely well catered for. A lot of personal touches made us feel very welcome (for example: bread, milk etc ready upon our arrival and the childrens towels had animals on them). Aug 2011.
  6. The cottages are very remote. However excellent accommodation and wonderful indoor pool. Aug 2011.
  7. Lovely little complex, great having the pool on site too. July 2011.
  8. A lovely cottage. My friend and I were made to feel very welcome when we arrived in torrential rain and were helped to carry our luggage to the cottage. The welcome pack was much appreciated and the fresh flowers on the table a lovely touch as was the doggy treat for my friends dog. The swimming pool was excellent and spotlessly clean. A very enjoyable stay. April 2011.
  9. The property was well equiped. If a lttle out of the way. A car was a must. March 2011.
  10. Lovely cottage, well equipped, warm and homely. We appreciated the vase of flowers left on our arrival. Ideal place for several families to have a holiday together in separate accommodation for each group. The weather was perfect and location good for seeing all parts of the county but not really close to a big town. Saw more stars there than have seen for many years! March 2011.
  11. A splendid little cottage and very well equipped. We felt very welcome and there were lovely touches like treats for the dog and a nappy bin for the baby! Nov 2010.
