Property Description

Standing amidst wonderful countryside close to the North Yorkshire Moors, Little Edstone Farm is a magnificent location for a combined sea and country holiday. Secluded and tranquil, guests are free to explore the woodland and landscaped grounds, which are home to a variety of wildlife - including wild deer, owls, hares, etc. These properties (refs IKC, IKE, IKG and IYX) are set on a small traditional organic farm, and guests are welcome to participate in farming activities when available or to simply appreciate the workings of an organic farm and wildlife conservation.
Guests are welcome to purchase the organic products grown here directly from the friendly owners. Some of the properties are environmentally friendly, heated by a unique wood-burning/solar heating system, and many of the practices throughout the farm and properties use natural resources for their day-to-day running. An indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and hard tennis court shared between the properties, a small gym, a games room with table tennis and a selection of board games, as well as a children’s play area complete the facilities on offer for these unique and comfortable holiday homes. The beautiful North Yorkshire Moors are a delight to explore either on foot or by car, or alternatively, the steam railway runs along stunning scenery through many unspoilt villages including Goathland (‘Aidensfield’ in the television series Heartbeat). The coast is easily accessible, 45 minutes away, and the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are delights not to be missed. The quaint cobbled streets of Robin Hood’s Bay, once a favourite haunt with smugglers, will keep children and adults entertained for hours with its shoreline full of strange and colourful pebbles. Castle Howard is within easy driving distance, and Flamingo Land (a popular theme park and zoo) is well worth the visit. The market town of Helmsley is 6 miles distant and has shops and inns as well as pretty walled gardens. Many NT properties can be found within a 15 mile radius, including Nunnington Hall, Byland Abbey and Duncomb Park, to name but a few. The ancient city of York is but a 45-minute drive (27 miles) and are within a 5-minute drive to the Yorkshire Moors. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep. All the cottages combine country living, yet are close enough to the coast to keep any visitor happy, whatever type of holiday they may be looking for. Little Edstone Farm is the perfect place in which to relax and unwind - whatever time of year. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Spacious beamed, open-plan living/dining room with wood-burning stove, sofa-bed (for +2), wooden floor and well-equipped fitted kitchen area. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. Bathroom with whirlpool bath, separate shower cubicle and toilet. First floor: Glazed section overlooking living area. Twin bedroom. Enclosed galleried twin bedroom (can be 6ft double). 1. The Old wheelhouse is excellent for a family holiday. The facilities ie swimming pool & games room ideal. The owners were very helpful. Oct 2012.
  2. My family stayed at The Old Wheelhouse in February there where 4 adults and 5 boys. What a fantastic time we had for the week, spending most of the days around the local area including "Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Eden Camp and Pickering". The boys loved to come back to the cottage and have a swim and play in the games room. I personally loved waking up to Roger Roger (The Cockerel), telling us all its time to get up. All the animals where very friendly and loved to be treated to the odd carrot or 10! I would certainly recommend Little Edstone to anyone, the family are very friendly and the surrounding area is so calming. Many Thanks. Feb 2012.

  9. Our party of 9 had a fabulous time at the wheelhouse, facilities are excellent particularly the pool. Just 1 suggestion for such a big house - a 4 slice toaster please! Nov 2009.
