Property Description

A late 18th century former farmhouse located close to the coast

This detached former whitewashed farmhouse sits within large private gardens and woodland on a hillside near Cardoness Castle, with hill walks directly from the door. Little Boreland is full of character and has caught the eye of many a passing artist, with its charming blue windows and separate dairy. The area offers walking opportunities with countryside, lochs and the Galloway Forest Park featuring cycle paths, walks, birds and other wildlife. There are many local attractions such as Cardoness Castle, Cally Gardens, and the Cream o’ Galloway for its adventure playgrounds and celebrated ice cream. Nearby are many attractive towns: Kirkcudbright, the artists’ town offering boat trips and art and craft shops; Castle Douglas, Scotland’s food town with many specialist shops and nearby Threave Castle and Gardens; Wigtown, Scotland’s national book town, and Creetown featuring the Gem Rock Museum. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Lovely cosy house with lovely garden and a good location. Saw fantastic wildlife in the garden. Went on lovely walks. Fabulous beaches and great weather. Had a lovely time. July 2012.
  2. Beautiful house and views. Very peaceful. The area itself has so much to offer, fantastic gardens to visit, castles, beaches etc. Great places to eat out, The Selkirk Arms, Kirkcudbright, The School House and many more. Can’t wait to go back. Oct 2011.
  3. The location is out of this world; wonderful views. Red squirrels on the bird table morning and evening, fallow deer in the garden when all is quiet. Very comfortable, cosy house. None of us wanted to leave, we all felt so at home (9 in party). Aug 2011.
  4. The property is set at the end of a long drive on the edge of a wood. The house is a mix of old and new with log burning fires in the dining and living rooms. The kitchen has all the mod cons of a modern property, fridge, freezer, cooker, dishwasher. The living room can only seat five, the dining room can seat nine. All things considered though it is an old property and the owners have made the most of what is available without losing the character of the house. A large barbecue would have been handy for the sunny nights. There is loads of exploring to do for children around the grounds which are deceptively large. Loads of wildlife. The property is a little gem, in an ideal location for exploring the areas castles, lakes, hills, rivers, widlife and more. July 2011.
  5. Very happy with our stay at Little Boreland. We had 3 generations with us - our 2 boys who loved the woods for den building, my husband and I plus our 2 mums who enjoyed sitting in the small conservatory watching red squirrels and deer in the garden. We loved the open fire each evening in the sitting room. Enjoyed the walk into Gatehouse of Fleet and excellent cakes at the Mill on the Fleet cafe. Very close to beach and wild hill country -perfect. June 2011.
  6. The cottage was idyllic, and the garden was one big adventure for our children, perfect for a relaxing break. April 2011.
  7. Peaceful and cosy with plenty of room for the kids to run around. Close to lots of wildlife and some fantastic clear skies at night. Oct 2010.
  8. We have now been to this house twice and are taken by its location both in terms of its immediate surroundings, and the fact it is in a good location for travelling to local beaches/historical and natural ’attractions’. Sept 2010.
  9. Very comfortable accommodation, everything you would ever need, beautiful setting. Sept 2010.
  10. Great view, quiet, had everything we need in the house. Aug 2010.
  11. Spacious grounds - great for young children. June 2010.
  12. It was a wonderful and very welcoming house in a beautiful location. May 2010.
  13. This was our first vacation for some time. I have to say we were very pleased with all aspects of the holiday and are considering booking Little Boreland for next year. It was clean, the equipment was comprehensive and the furnishings more than adequate. Aug 2009.
  14. This is a lovely house with adaptable accommodation, and plenty grounds. Great wildlife, squirrels dear and owls. Aug 2009.
