Little Beck is a delightful cottage style ground floor holiday apartment, part of the owner’s farmhouse. Gill Head Farm is a working hill farm which also runs a caravan and campsite. Set against the spectacular backdrop of Blencathra and the northern fells with a lovely rural yet central location, this is perfect for walkers and nature lovers. Only 4 miles from Ullswater, with its many great walks, water sports, lake steamers, fishing etc. The nearest town is Keswick on the shores of Derwentwater and the popular resorts of Windermere and Grasmere are just a short scenic drive away. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 0.5 miles.

All on ground floor: Living room with sofa bed/dining room/kitchen. 1 twin bedroom (zip and link, can be 7ft double). Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Shower room with toilet.

Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. Freeview TV. DVD. CD. Electric cooker. Shared laundry facilities. Lawned garden with patio and furniture. Portable gas barbecue. Parking (2 cars). No smoking. NB: There is a stream 10 yards from the cottage.

  3. The property is located on the road to Ullswater and is within a farm and caravan site. The garden is accessible across the track and is not enclosed or private so pets need to be controlled at all times. Feb 2012.
  4. I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. The location between Penrith and Keswick is absolutely ideal for touring the Western lakes. The farm setting was also ideal for early morning dog walks with a field adjoining Troutbeck river a very short stroll away from the cottage. The cottage itself was warm and cosy and the owners helpful and not intrusive in any way. The Troutbeck inn about half a mile away serves absolutely excellent food, its a gastro pub and certainly a cut above normal pub grub. I will definitely be returning to the cottage. We went during the October half term and were blessed with near perfect weather for the whole week. Oct 2011.
  5. The cottage was well equipped and within easy reach of major routes, but far enough away for it to be quiet. The family were extremely helpful when you needed them but did not interfere. All in all a great time and we are considering going back next year for more than one holiday. Sept 2011.
  6. Gill head farm was perfectly positioned for the northern fells. There was a fly fishing lake very close by, ullswater was a 10 minute drive as was Keswick and derwent water and we were right opposite blencathra, stunning views from the top of the farm road and the pub in troutbeck was dog friendly with really good food.

  8. Lovely cottage, very well furnished and equipped and had the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! Towels were even provided for our dog! Location was excellent (just off A66, approximately half-way between Penrith and Keswick) for accessing most of Lake District. Our hosts were very helpful and friendly, but not at all intrusive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property to any couple looking for a quiet and relaxing break in the country. July 2010.

Apart from the very high standard of the accommodation, Gill Head is ideally suited for a holiday in the Lake District as it is close to, but not on, the A66, enabling swift access to all areas from the Northern fells, to the tourist destinations around Windermere and beyond to Coniston.
