Property Description

Le Petit Village is situated at the end of a quiet country lane with sweeping panoramic views in almost every direction across the valley. These two cottages and the owner’s house are set amidst seventeen private hectares of beautiful open countryside. Exposed stone, beams and historic features have been retained to preserve their charm and character. A magnificent swimming pool is situated in the grounds and a picnic and barbecue area has been provided in one of the surrounding copses. There is a partially fenced wildlife pond 300 yards from the properties, children must be supervised. The nearby riverside market town of Le Bugue is just three miles away and offers restaurants, bars, a Tuesday market, shops, canoeing, kayaking, riding, tennis, aquarium and a crystal cathedral. Les Eyzies de Tayac with its National Museum of Prehistory is also close by and offers opportunities for exploring the shelters that were once home to prehistoric man. There are many water sports facilities in the area, especially at the charming village of Trémolat and in the 7-hectare park of Les Etang du Bois. The nearby pony club allows parents to accompany their children on country rides. Further afield is the historic town of Bergerac with its wine making traditions and the medieval market town of Sarlat. The whole area is steeped in historic villages, magnificent châteaux, oak and chestnut forests, fields of tobacco, maize and sunflowers.

  1. This property was ideal for our family holiday and will potentially be an excellent small centre for a holiday exploring the very rural Lot region. The property provides good accommodation for 4 adults and two children (3 good sized bedrooms and a very spacious downstairs living room/kitchen. Adjoining this property are two smaller lets and one more sizeable house adjacent. Hire all properties - Ideal for a big family/friends gathering. The pool is shared. A car is needed as the house is out in the countryside, but a restaurant (The Marmite) is near for very cheap eating out and the town of Le Bugue is a very nice centre. Les Eyzies, another town close by, is advertised as the centre of the region for visiting Troglodyte villages and cave drawings. We visited Rouffignac for a guided tour in a little train of original cave drawings - spectacular - and a Troglodyte village spanning many centuries. Chateaux, gorges, houses coming out of the rock, vineyards... take your pick. There are lovely forest walks from the property and the walk around the Troglodyte features are close by. This can take 4/5 hours. (Not tried). Have visited the Lot region more than once - hence would probably not visit again for a while, at least. June 2011.

  3. Beautifully decorated and furnished to very high standard. Ideal for families or 2/3 couples looking for quiet countryside location, but near enough to local towns for shops, restaurants, etc. Pool was good size and very convenient from all properties. Sept 2009.
  4. The caretaker Dario couldn’t do enough to accommodate and help, he is an absolute asset. The house was lovely and well equipped. The pictures we viewed on the website of the property were accurate and in reality we were more impressed when we arrived. July 2009.
  5. The property really is set in the most beautiful location and is very secluded and private. It has been renovated to a very high standard. The interior is very clean, simple, modern and fresh. Many of the Dordogne’s lovely villages/towns/attractions are within easy reach of the property. Canoeing on the River is a must! We would definitely consider going back to the property. The owner was fantastic. He was very friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English. Aug 2008.
