11th century house with exceptional garden


Enjoy the calm and the beauty of this 11th century detached stone house in the historic hamlet of Faize. Many of the original features of the house have been preserved such as wooden beams and stone walls, as well as the original stone well, which is situated in the bar area of the house, next to the lounge.

There is a big, well kept garden with a pond and a little stream running through it at the back of the property, thus dividing the garden in two distinctive parts. The hamlet of Faize also dates back to the 11th century and lies in the heart of the vineyards of St. Emilion.

Famous St. Emilion and its mysterious underground town and church are definitely worth a visit. During the summer, there is also a little train that takes you around the town to discover the vineyards. Bordeaux and the Dordogne river also lie within easy driving distance.

Shops 0.6 miles (1km), café/bar and restaurant 3.1 miles (5km).

Lower ground floor: Billiard room, utility room. Ground floor: Lounge, dining room, kitchen, separate toilet. First floor: Bathroom with bidet and basin, separate toilet, 3 double bedrooms: 1 with en-suite shower and basin, 1 plus double bed, 1 plus 120cm bed, study.

Solar heating, open fire in lounge and dining room, all fuel and power included in rent May to Sept, €35 supplement Oct to April, bed linen and towels included in rent, colour satellite TV, radio, washing machine, freezer, mini-oven, microwave, terrace, outdoor furniture, barbecue, off road parking for 2 cars. Sorry, no pets. NB: Pond and unfenced stream in garden.

  1. Really quiet location, in a remote village, but 15 mins walk to the bakery for baguettes! Just what we were looking for. This suited us perfectly. Comfortable beds, excellent facilities, excellent setting for outdoor eating, including barbecues. Log fire. Electric room heaters. Lots of authentic features in a property that was built hundreds of years ago! To really cap it all, the owner, who lives in the adjoining property, was most welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. It did not take long before were were treating him as friend rather than landlord/owner! He went out of his way to make us welcome. Excellent grounds. No parking problems. Oct 2011.

  4. The owner was very welcoming and helpful upon our arrival. The property is lovely and spacious, with large bedrooms and reception rooms and even a billiard room on a lower floor. The garden is huge with lots of different outside seating areas - the perfect location for a family holiday or a holiday with friends. Can’t recommend this property enough! July 2008.
