Property Description

Set in the pretty village of Courléon, this cosy cottage has been restored to a good standard and has an enclosed lawn and terrace, with only fields and vineyards beyond. The château at Gizeux is only a few minutes away and nearby Baugé has an interesting old town with winding streets and a leafy marketplace. Across the river is Saumur with its magnificent hillside château, cavalry school and modern shops and restaurants. Further afield is the zoo at Doué-la-Fontaine, where animals roam in natural tufeau caves, the city of Angers with its unique tapestry, and the vineyards of St. Nicholas and Bourgueil are just a ten minute drive.

Location: Courléon village, 4km E of Vernoil (shops, bar), 15km from Borgeuil, 20km NE of Saumur (all facilities, château), 25km SE of Baugé (golf), 25km from the Loire Valley and its châteaux, 30km from Fontevraud (royal abbey), 45km from Tours.

  1. A very comfortable Cottage with all facilities and centrally placed in a very quiet village 9 miles N. of Borgueil. A good Supermarket U 4 miles away (open all days- mornings/late afternoons) at Vernouil-Vernantes with resonably priced petrol. Good Tuesday market at Borgueil. Sept 2012.
  2. This gite was very nice as were the owners who lived next door they were very welcoming. Area good for wine tasting and one of the local towns did a wine tasting and a talk on wine making by an English guide. Chanteuse were interesting and the entrance fees ranged fom 8 to 14 euros per person. There were a couple of good restaurants which served 5 course meals at a reasonable price, also petrol and diesel prices are cheaper than in england. All in all good value for money. June 2012.

  6. An excellent cottage, well furnished, very clean and very quiet. Courleon itself has no shops or restaurants so you do need a car to get shopping and eat out - but the services in the area are good. The cottage has a self-contained garden with sun loungers, table and chairs and is lovely to sit in and relax. The cottage owners live next door and were always helpful but never intrusive. An excellent place, ideal for a couple. July 2011.
  7. The house was very well equipped, the bed comfortable and the owner very discreet. The church bells mentioned in another review were hardly noticeable. The only downside was the ridiculously small dishwasher and washing up by hand was easier. A big plus was the sunloungers in the unexpected garden as the weather was so good we could make full use of them on our return from a days sightseeing. The saumur region is somewhere we have visited for the last 10 years and even we went to a new (to us) attraction or town every single day of our weeks stay, meaning there is more than enough to see and do if you want to.
