Property Description

In a unique location, standing in a large enclosed courtyard garden, these charming barn conversions are surrounded by Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve. The Cart Lodge (ref BVA) stands detached, whilst Lark Lodge (ref BVJ) and Curlew Cottage (ref BVK) adjoin one another. Lackford Lakes is a bird watchers’ paradise, created from reclaimed land beside the River Lark and consists of a diverse landscape with meadow, woodland, reed beds, streams and lakes. There is a never ending list of birds, deer, badgers and sometimes otters. Although located in the peaceful nature reserve, the barns, which have been sympathetically renovated to a high standard, are only 5 miles from historic Bury St Edmunds with its cathedral, abbey gardens and Georgian theatre, and 10 miles from Newmarket where visitors can enjoy a day at the races or visit the National Horseracing Museum. Also conveniently situated for the picturesque villages of Lavenham, Long Melford and Clare. Slightly further afield are the university city of Cambridge, Constable Country and the Suffolk Heritage coast. Shop and pub 2 miles.

Large beamed living/dining room with wooden floor and kitchen area. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room with toilet. Separate toilet. First floor: Three bedrooms: one double with en-suite shower room with toilet, one twin, one single. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. A brilliant cottage, renovated sympathetically and with style. Very comfortable beds and enough seating for all in the living room area. Oct 2012.
  2. A warm and comfortable property. Excellent for those who love nature. A car is a must as shops and pub are a little way away. June 2012.
  3. A lovely, comfortable, spacious cottage in a quiet, peaceful location. Lots to do nearby and the nature reserve was very good for walks and bird watching. August 2011.
  4. We had a lovely holiday. The converted barn has been fitted out to a very high standard. The enormous double bed in one of the very good sized rooms was huge. The bathrooms are all good sizes too with excellent showers. The barn is quite isolated there are no street lights as it’s at the end of a small road/track and so very dark at night - which we loved and on the edge of a wildlife reserve which we walked round every evening and saw lots of animals and birds which kept the children fascinated including deers, otters, a kingfisher, hundreds of ducks and geese and even more rabbits. A pheasant came to eat the birdseed on the lawn every afternoon and there are owls which appear at dusk (as well as bats). Although there is a small village nearby with a pub, it would be difficult to walk to down the A road with fast traffic and no pavement. There is a lot to do however, with an Anglo-Saxon village nearby and West Stow Country park for walks which has a good adventure playground for children. We visited Ickworth House, a National Trust property, which is about 5 miles away which has a very good adventure playground suitable for small children (ours is 2 years old) as well as the older ones (aged 9 in our case). The weather helped I think but I would recommend it to any one who wants a relaxing holiday away from it all. April 2011.
  5. A beautiful barn conversion equipped with everything you need. Owners are on hand to help and advice with any queries. Within easy reach of Bury St. Edmunds. A lovely part of the country looking forward to staying again. April 2011.
