Property Description

This pleasant detached house enjoys a large private swimming pool in a well maintained garden which backs onto the River Aveyron. On the edge of a charming little village with shops and restaurants and even a train station with a few local trains which could avoid taking the car to some excursions. The property is ideally located to explore this unspoilt region of France with varied excursion possibilities to consider. Only 13km away Cordes-sur-Ciel occupies a remarkable site, perched on the top of a rocky outcrop, a fortified town dating back to the 13th century. Lovely historical towns such as Albi, Montauban, Rodez and "La Ville Rose" of Toulouse are certainly worth visiting, time permitting. May be even a spot of canoeing in the Aveyron Gorges, if lazing around the pool is not the order of the day. The property has a nice first floor terrace with pleasant views, perfect for dining al fresco after a long days holidaymaking. Fly via Toulouse, 100km, or Rodez, 90km.

My wife & I received a very warm welcome from the proprietors of the property, who gave us the full "guided tour" and provided us with their phone numbers for any subsequent questions or requests for information. The house is lovely, bright & airy, in a "real" French village. The quality of the accommodation and the range & level of the equipment provided was excellent. The pool is superb and completely screened by trees/shrubs... it was used every day of our stay (despite being late September). We spent every evening having supper on the delightful balcony overlooking the garden/pool. Over the years, we have rented many gites (houses/cottages/barns)... La Maison du Magnolia is by far the best! We visited Albi (stunning cathedral and surrounding streets), Cordes (an unforgettable step back into the 13th century), St. Antonin (another lovely old nearby village) and Villefranche (awesome market on a Thursday). Every day of the week, we ate lunch in a restaurant or bar/brasserie... every single one was good, with a special mention for "Les Deux Rivierres" in Laguepie and "Le Restaurant de Saint-Jean" in Villefranche. Despite having previously spent five years living & working in France, this was a region we had not visited... a real oversight. The countryside, scenery, villages, markets, restaurants & people were fabulous ! We have already pencilled in two visits of two weeks 2013! Sept 2012.
  2. This is a lovely propoerty and very well equipped. The balcony is almost like sitting in a tree house with a wide vsriety of bird life. Restaurants and shops are a short walk and the local train service allows you to explore without your car. July 2011.
  3. We provided several pages of notes in the house book - main points are: A fine welcome from the owners. We were the first renters. High standard for a newly released property. Good sized pool. June 2011.
