Property Description

Situated in the heart of the Cotswolds and in the market town of Winchcombe, this spacious, detached holiday property has a delightful riverbank setting and is perfect for larger families and groups and can accommodate some disabled visitors. Adjacent to the owner’s home, the property is only 250 yards from the town’s shops, restaurants and ancient inns, whilst a footpath leads across fields to the romantic Sudeley Castle, home of Henry VIII’s last wife, Katherine Parr, who is buried in the castle’s chapel. Today the castle and its gardens can be enjoyed, with a series of exhibitions including items from Elizabethan and Victorian times, and it hosts special events such as the Summer Magic Proms and Air Display. This is an ideal base for walkers, being at the intersection of many well known walks including the Cotswold Way, the Gloucestershire Way and the Wardens Way. Cheltenham, with its racecourse and award winning parks and gardens, is 7 miles away. Each year it has literature, science and jazz festivals – something to appeal to all family members. The beautiful village of Broadway, referred to as the ‘show piece of the Cotswolds’, is also just 7 miles distant. Broadway Tower, with its colourful history, is well worth a visit as are the shops, art galleries and fine restaurants. Medieval Tewkesbury, the vibrant and busy market town of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and Oxford are all easily accessible. Shops and pub 250 yards.

  1. We stayed at Kingfisher Cottage with our French relatives - three couples and a single man. We cannot state enough how superb the whole experience was - the house was modern, but tastefully and beautifully appointed. It was spacious enough with three large downstairs living areas to suit all of us and give us space to be together (e.g. for meals or discussions) when we felt like it, or separate (e.g. using computers with free wifi, watching TV in different areas, doing quiet activities). The hosts were helpful and discrete. A very good experience. May 2012.

  5. We could not fault Kingfisher Cottage. The house appears fairly new and the owners have put great thought into the furnishings. We all had our own en-suite bathrooms.The beds were all comfortable. The beautiful conservatory allowed us the space for a family meal. The weather was glorious for the last week of September and we were able to use the excellent garden furniture and gas BBQ.The downstairs accommodation would be suitable for a person with disabilities having wider doors, an electric bed and a wet room. The village of Winchcombe is a gem - unspoilt in beautiful countryside - very quiet compared to the other villages which attract large crowds. It is well positioned for visiting the Cotswolds.   6. The perfect cottage, all bedrooms have a bathroom and just a short stroll to Winchcombe which is a lovely place! The owners live next door and were so helpful with local information. The cottage had everything you could want, right down to a box of plasters! Sept 2011.
  7. The house is very well equipped in an excellent location. There is a wide choice of restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance. Gloucester and Stratford on Avon are worth a day visit,whilst a tour of the Cotswold villages is a must. There are plenty of signposted walks passing through Winchcombe to suit all levels. Aug 2011.
  8. Can highly recommend this property for wheelchair users, my husband could use his wheelchair and be independent, I have recommended the property already to our vicar as she has disabled relatives and I will be passing details to all our other disabled friends. May 2011.

  16. Ideal number of bedrooms each with en-suite. The number and variety of toys available for our 5 year old grandson to use was wonderful. April 2010.
  17. Excellent space and light, airy atmosphere. Useful conservatory, as we and space there for quiet pastimes (reading, cards) whilst the television was watched by others. The gardens, had the weather been better, provided lots of seating, tables and, for families, room for playing. Views from the property were outstanding. As Ramblers, we found the paths, starting by the house, excellent and well-signed. The surrounding villages and attractions are many and roads in the area quiet. Winchcombe is an ideal location, the shops, pubs, cafes all being within walking distance. The owners were discreet and friendly. Minor quibbles:- more hooks in bathrooms, better instructions about the equipment and the recycling bins... which were for what. But minor grumbles. We would hire this property again. March 2010.
