Property Description

"Charming cottages situated in a scenic holiday location, which form an ideal base from which to explore the stunning scenery of the North Yorkshire Coast..."

Killerby Old Hall and its 7 cottages are ideal for a countryside holiday whilst being less than 2 miles from the beach of Cayton Bay. Guests can enjoy the nature reserve and lake area, or relax in the indoor heated swimming pool. The accommodation ranges from the Old Hall, sleeping 10 in period splendour, through to cosy Crow’s Nest which sleeps 2. Set in a pretty courtyard, each cottage is different yet has its own sitting-out area with patio furniture and BBQ.
Killerby Old Hall is situated between the coastal resorts of family friendly Filey, with its cobble landing and pretty promenade, and Scarborough, with its vibrant South Bay and naturally picturesque North Bay, located on part of Britain’s heritage coast. The Stephen Joseph Theatre, famed throughout the county, puts on a number of Alan Aykbourn productions. To the north, across the stunning North Yorkshire Moors, lies the port of Whitby; famous for its connections to Captain James Cook and Dracula. Robin Hood’s Bay, a former fishing village with a smugglers past, has quaint streets which lead visitors to a small, sandy cove and rock pools. Heading inland, find the historic market town of Pickering, where the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam train begins its journey. Access Dalby Forest through the attractive village of Thornton-le-Dale and be sure to stop for an ice cream. The forest offers a range of activities including mountain bike tracks, or for those feeling adventurous there is Go Ape. It is also a popular picnic destination which is surrounded by walks that the whole family can enjoy. Travel a little further afield to Castle Howard with its stunning house and grounds. The ancient, Roman walled city of York sits just an hour up the A64, a famously haunted city with many attractions such as the railway museum, river trips and excellent shopping. To the south along the coast, the Cleveland Way leads to dramatic Flamborough Head and the Bempton RSPB Sanctuary. The village of Cayton is a 500 yard stroll, with its pub, post office and shop. Full amenities are just over 4 miles away in Scarborough. Shop and pub 500 yards.

Former stable, almost identical to KKV, nestling to one side of the courtyard overlooking the beautiful orchard offering comfortable accommodation. Beamed open-plan living room with open fire and well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen/dining area. French windows opening onto a south-facing paved terrace with barbecue area and patio furniture. Double bedroom. Twin bedroom with additional single bed (for +1). Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, comfortable accommodation and lovely area. Our only critisism is that we ticked the ’suitable for disability box’ when booking and although the property is all on one level there is a small step at the entrance and a bath with a shower over it which my mother could not get into. Sept 2012.
  2. This was a great stay, loved every minute of it, great for the kids! May 2012.
  3. First time we had booked a cottage and were we impressed. The cottage was excellent, we had our own car parking space and above all there was a log fire with plenty of stock for us to use we loved it. April 2012.
  4. We loved the cottage, but the weather was very cold when we arrived and the twin bedroom was very cold. More blankets please! Other than that, the place was great, and the log fire and continuous supply of logs was very welcoming. Definitely recommend it. Feb 2012.
  5. The cottage was within easy driving to various coastal locations. The pool was good & well used after a day’s site seeing. The personal touches were a surprise, appreciated & very thoughtful. The property was well equipped and maintained. This has been the best holiday cottage we have stayed at. Can I suggest that the pot holes are repaired on the driveway from the Main Road. Nov 2011.
  6. Lovely comfortable cottage in a good location. The children particularly loved the pool! Oct 2011.
  7. The owners were very welcoming. Gave us a welcome pack including tea, coffee, sugar, milk wine and chocolates. Swimming pool and games room were great. Swallows has a lovely terrace, with table and chairs and barbeque, overlooking a small orchard. Location good for getting to seaside towns but Cayton village doesn’t have good pub food or restaurants. It’s difficult to find places to eat out in the area. Aug 2011.
  8. I really liked the open fire. The cottage and all it’s contents were like home from home. The swimming pool was good too! Feb 2011.
  9. Clean and good quality. Warm. Well equipped. Jan 2011.
  10. Wonderful welcome, lovely accommodation spotless with everything we could possibly want, welcomed with chocolates wine tea coffee etc. Oct 2010.
  11. The quietness and serenity. June 2010.
  12. Everything about this property was excellent, the owners were very friendly and the welcome pack was marvelous. We would definitely recommend this accommodation. March 2010.
  13. Great base for exploring, pool fantstic for the kids, immaculate accommodation, ideal quiet and safe spot. Feb 2010.
  14. Very impressed with the facilities, especially the welcome pack. Dec 2009.
  15. Very well equipped and furnished. Welcome pack a lovely touch. Swimming pool a great facility. Staff very helpful. Nov 2009.
  16. This was a first time visit to a cottage, not sure what to expect, was impressed with overall setup and will be looking to book next year. Sept 2009.
  17. Clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Aug 2009.
  18. Fantastic outdoor space, games room and shared pool. Whole family could really relax. Cottage compact, but everything there, clean and ready. The owners are very helpful, welcoming and friendly. For our two bigger children, aged 10 and 8, the outdoor space and games room were fantastic. July 2009.
  19. The owners were especially helpful and the accommodation was delightful. The pool water was too cold to be confortable but all other aspects were excellent. I would stay there again. April 2009.
  20. Very clean and comfortable. The welcome pack was excellent. June 2009.
