Adjacent to the River Cree, this single-storey, semi-detached stone built cottage is situated on a quiet country road with views over the Galloway hills. The Southern Upland Way (500 yards), Glentrool 7 stanes mountain biking and visitor centre (2 miles), and ideally located for the Dark Sky Park, near Galloway Forest, this is an excellent walking base with world class mountain biking. At Glentrool, spot red squirrels, deer and maybe a golden eagle. Fishing and golf in the area, with riding close by and water sports at Loch Ken. Shop 10 miles, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

All on ground floor: Living room with tiled floor/dining room with laminate floor/kitchen with tiled floor. 1 twin bedroom with laminate floor. Shower room with toilet.

Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Electric central heating, electricity included (£10per week October-April). Bed linen and towels included. TV (for DVD use only). DVD and small library. CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Freezer. Courtyard and furniture. Portable barbecue. Parking (1 car). No smoking.

  1. Wonderful location. Cottage is small - perfect for 2 and a dog - but well equipped. Next door but one to a very friendly pub which serves excellent food. What more could you want?! Only quibble was the garden. A fence panel had blown down and hadn’t been replaced (apparantly this happened quite a while ago), so couldn’t let the dog out without keeping an eye on him. Wouldn’t stop us going again though. April 2012.
  2. Came for a week in March 2012, had a lovely time in the cottage, the pub next door was excellent and lots of walking all around the area. The cottage itself was really nice, all the necessities and made due to no live TV you can avoid the world if you want to. It is located 5 minutes drive away from the Galloway Forest Visitors Centre, though avoided that car part as it charges! All in all a great base to explore the area, we will definitely come again. March 2012.
  3. This cottage has the most central location for walks etc. The beds were very comfortable and proper woollen blankets provided. The heating is superb. Kitchen good (but no grill), TV only for watching DVD’s, not live telly. Nice small enclosed garden with bench table. Dog welcome, he loved the stay. Pub 50 meters away excellent, high quality very reasonably priced meals and real ales on tap. Most enjoyable 4 days, will come again! May 2011.
  4. Great little cottage. basic but enough. But the best / worst (for my waist line) was the pub next door.They were helpful, supplied excellent food and helped with suggestions of where to go etc and history of the area. March 2011.

  13. The cottage is in a perfect location, with Newton Stewart being only 10 minutes away by car and great walks at Loch Trool only 3 minutes away by car. The pubs hosts are more than welcoming (30 seconds from cottage) and if like us you bring a dog , you can take it into the pub. All in all an unforgettable holiday location. May 2009.

A small but lovely cottage in a superb quiet rural location located a couple of hundred yards from the Southern Upland Way (long distance footpath) and couple of miles from the beautiful Loch Trool, it’s an ideal base for walking - there are a several footpaths within a mile or two - we wore out our dog by the end of the week! The very welcoming House O’Hill Hotel is right next door to the cottage and serves a small but freshly cooked menu every day except Tuesdays with good prices, very friendly staff (who are very used to muddy boots) and locals, and a fine guest beer. Having worn the dog out, we took to the car and explored the surrounding countryside - once away from the A75, the roads and beaches are very quiet indeed - even at the end of July! and the scenery is just stunning - very green and unpopulated - it really is an undiscovered corner of Scotland - Highly recommended, we’ll be back (when the dog’s paws are better, anyway!) July 2007.
