Property Description

A well positioned stone holiday cottage at a midway point on the Powys/Shropshire border between the popular towns of Clun, famous for its castle, and Knighton, a town on the Offa’s Dyke path with its pretty timber framed buildings many dating back to the 17th century, its narrow sharply climbing streets lined with antique shops and a good selection of coffee houses and traditional inns, plus of course its strong connection to Owain Glendwr. Visitors can easily enjoy trips to nearby Ludlow with its castle, racecourse and numerous festivals. Enjoy a trip to Bishop’s Castle with its market town and home brewers, Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, Carding Mill Valley, Ironbridge, Bridgenorth, Attingham Park (NT) and Shewsbury. Other places of interest include Presteigne, home to the Judges Lodging, Churchstoke Country park, Powys Castle (NT) and Llanfair Light Railway. Shops and pub 2 miles.

Ground floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen. First floor: 1 double bedroom with additional single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Woodburner in living/dining room (initial fuel included). NSH, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Satellite TV. DVD. Stereo/CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Freezer. Payphone. Landscaped gardens with patio and furniture. Parking (1 car). One well-behaved dog welcome (sheep country), free of charge. No smoking.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. A very comfortable cottage in a very quiet relaxing location. July 2012.
  2. This was our sixth stay at hope cottage I think that says it all! March 2012.
  3. It was a beautiful cottage in an ideal setting and a very well equipped cottage which has been well looked after. There was only a picture of the exterior of the cottage on the website so we were very pleasantly suprised on our arrival. March 2012.
  4. Great facilities and location for visiting other towns and cities. However, mention should be made of the steep and uneven hill up to the cottage, even from the car park. It may not be suitable for elderly or disabled clients. Sept 2011.
  5. Much bigger inside than expected, especially the living room and bedroom. Well furnished and equipped. Little radio & zero mobile reception, but Sky TV/Radio provided. Gardens in photo are now fenced off, but owners happy to share. Close to fabulous scenery (ask how to access the ridge opposite) and charming villages (e.g. Clun, Bishops Castle). Ludlow, Rhyader, Llanidloes (for upper Severn river walks), Long Mynd, Shrewsbury (by train!) are easy excursions. Knighton (Horse & Jockey excellent for food & drink) is a 6 minute drive, mostly uphill on the way back - Nb local taxi service is erratic at best. A great centre for very varied exploration. Good local supermarket (Tuffins, open Sunday to 4) in Knighton. Aug 2011.
  6. Spacious, comfortable and well-equipped with outdoor space and access to great walks. July 2011.
  7. An added bonus - most pleasant and helpful owners of the cottage. July 2011.
  8. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find that the property was bigger than we had expected from the photographs. The owners were very nice and helpful. South Shropshire is lovely. May 2011.
  9. Very comfortable & spacious cottage. Furnishings & equipment were very satisfactory. Located in hilly, scenic surroundings, which provided good walks, only for the fit. May 2011.
  10. As soon as we walked in we felt at home, Hope cottage is very welcoming, comfortable, cosy, practical and fully equipped. Its location in a beautiful country side area with panoramic views and amazing walks makes it great for relaxing holidays. There was a special feeling which made the whole experience just perfect. Jan 2011.
  11. Spacious, well equipped in a lovely location with very friendly, helpful owners. Nov 2010.
  12. Very comfortable, home from home. Owners had thought of everying and fell in love with the wood burner. Oct 2010.
  13. From our point of view, its appointment away from Knighton (reasonably close) views and accessibility from the town of Knighton are all good. Oct 2010.
  14. The size (space) of the accommodation exceeded expectation. The setting of the cottage was excellent. The cleanliness superb. Oct 2010.
  15. The accommodation was far larger than I expected and appeared on the images; I found it warm, clean, with a pleasant ’homely’ décor. What impressed me was the lovely, well kitted-out kitchen. The owner was very conscientious and made sure that I was comfortable. One useful thing was that there is a BT Fon wireless internet zone that can be picked up from the adjacent property if you subscribe to this broadband service. Sep 2010.
  16. Lovely location, spacious although only for 2/3 people. Very clean, refurbished very well. Owner very helpful without being intrusive. Would definitely recommend highly, particularly if your enjoy walking and are prepared for lots of hills. Aug 2010.
  17. The accomodation is comfortable and in a lovely quiet spot ideal for relaxing. March 2010.
  18. Instantly felt like home, very comfortable with everything we could have wanted a real "get away from it all" feel. The log burner was a real treat in the chilly evenings. Loved it. Feb 2010.
  19. Masses of space for 2 people. Miles from anywhere but easily accessible. Woodburning stove kept the house pleasantly warm. Nov 2009.
  20. Excellent, everything you could possibly want;fuel, firelighters etc for solid fuel burner, milk, bread, butter, lots of extras such as vinegar, salt, pepper, mustard, very good selection of cutlery, crockery, loads of videos and books, leaflets, cleaning sprays, toilet rolls, what more can i say! Nov 2009.
