Set in the small traditional village of Gilcrux, just outside the north west Lake District National Park, these three attractive holiday homes are well furnished and equipped in a contemporary style. Hollybank House (ref 29408) has an eleven-seater silver screen cinema room with projection and sound system adaptable to DVDs, Playstation and Xbox (not supplied). Hollybank Cottage (ref 26811) has the added bonus of a games room whilst Holly Cottage (ref 25859) provides compact holiday accommodation. Gilcrux is an ideal location for touring the highlights of Northern England. Both the western and northern lakes are close by with Bassenthwaite, 6 miles, and Buttermere, 12 miles. The traditional market town of Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth, and the bustling lakeside town of Keswick both have a wide selection of attractions, and are within a 20-minute drive. Birdwatching and coastal walking can be enjoyed along the Solway, 4 miles. The city of Carlisle, 15 miles, with castle and excellent museum is a good starting point for discovering the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, with its interesting exhibition and the history of the Border Reivers from nearby Scotland. The Northumberland National Park, Eden Valley and the North Pennines are all within a scenic drive. Shops 3 miles, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
NB: Properties 29408, 26811 and 25859 can be booked together to accommodate up to 20 guests.

Ground floor: Living room. 2 steps into dining room/kitchen. 2 double bedrooms, one with additional single bunk over. Games room. Shower room with toilet. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double (5ft) with sofa bed (for alternative sleeping) and en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet.

Woodburner in living room included. Digital TV. Playstation. Washing machine and tumble dryer (in outhouse). Freezer. Barbecue. Games room with pool table. Parking (3 cars). NB: 10 steps to garden.

All properties: Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot and high chair on request. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Dishwasher. Wi-fi. Shared lawned garden with patio, sitting-out area and furniture. Cycle store. No smoking. Friday to Friday.

  1. Brilliant cottage. Family vacation with 8 adults (4 couples) and a toddler. The accommodation was spacious, very comfortable (gorgeous leather sofas) and everyone was delighted with the standard of cleanliness. The bathrooms are great - the bath just invites you to have a long soak. The games room is a real bonus. Having such a lovely place to stay meant we could just get on enjoying ourselves.   3. The cottage is very spacious, the photos on the website do not do it justice. The games room and the selection of DVDs are an added bonus. Everywhere was very clean and tidy and everything we needed was provided. It really was a home from home. Both the owners of the cottage and the pub next door made us feel extremely welcome and the pub food was good which meant we never cooked all week. The surrounding area is spectacular. July 2012.
  4. Although the weather was not great the cottage was fantastic. It was very well set up with a huge amount of space and the added bonus of the games room. Very comfortably accommodated our party with room to spare. Location was great for the northern lakes and handy for the coast as well. Would definitely go back to this cottage and location.   5. There are no basics provided ie; washing up liquid, spare loo rolls etc, which have been provided at other cottages we’ve stayed at. There is a post office in the village but it’s only open for a couple of hours a day so this was slight problem. However, the cottage itself is great. Loads of space and the pool table in the games room was a huge hit with everyone. Take note that it’s 20p per game so you need a supply of coins for this. March 2012.
