Property Description

Hillside is located in the small village of Talsarnau, which sits between Harlech and Porthmadog and is a great location to discover the beauty of North Wales. The village has a pub, bistro serving food, train station and beautiful estuary walks. Formerly two cottages, Hillside now offers 3 bedroom accommodation, as well as a well-equipped kitchen, separate dining room and living room with an open fire for cosy nights in. As a former slate miners cottage, Hillside retains some of the old charm of times gone by, including an open fire, exposed floor boards and slate floor. Electric radiators throughout provide guests with instant heat for colder evenings. Guests can access the terraced garden from the rear bedroom, as well as from the kitchen downstairs. The garden terrace with garden furniture provides a sunny spot to relax and unwind after a long day walking, sightseeing or at one of the local beaches or tourist attractions. Local amenities including cash point machine, convenience store, cafes, takeaways, fish and chip shop, antique shops and post office are only a 5-minute drive to Harlech. Hillside is well-located for many visitor attractions, the famous Portmeirion Italian style village is a short drive and has been the location for many films, as well as the hit 1960’s television show ’The Prisoner’. The famous Ffestiniog Railway will take you on a spectacular journey from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog, whilst the Snowdon Mountain Railway is the easy way of getting to the summit of Mount Snowden, or you can explore the ruins of Harlech Castle, a World Heritage site. Talsarnau Estuary is easily accessible by foot from the property, where you can take in the stunning views of the surrounding area. Travel a little further and go hiking in the mountains of Snowdonia or fishing at Lake Trawsfyndd. There are many beaches near to Hillside including Harlech and Black Rock Sands by the town of Porthmadog, where further amenities including larger supermarket, petrol station independent cafes and shops can be found.   1. It is a very nice property made up of two old cottages combined to make one spacious one. The location of the village is very good, though it is a fair distance to the nearest shops so I think it is more suited to those with cars. Having said that, the Cambrian coastal railway has a stop just a few hundred yards from the property. A guest house down the road does great breakfasts and is sometimes open for evening meals too (though not when we were there). There is no internet access and we found mobile phone signals in the property were poor so it is a good place to go to ’get away from it all’ but not one for people who have to ’keep in touch’. There is a very good curry house in Harlech, about 3 miles down the road. We found that the locals in the Lion Hotel in Harlech were extremely friendly and loved our puppy, so it’s a good place to call in if you have a dog! We liked harlech Castle, the Bleanauu Ffestinog railway, the beach at Barmouth and the Precipice Walk at Dolgellau. If you want a lively night life though, this cottage is not for you! The storage heaters do (eventually!) kick out enough heat, but ideally would be replaced with something more practical. April 2012.

  3. The cottage was clean and spacious for the 5 adults, 1 baby and a large dog which comprised our party. The kitchen was reasonably equipped and the lounge comfortable. Sept 2011.
  4. Accommodation was quite good. Bedrooms were good but could have done with a mirror in the second double bedroom - I had to go in the bathroom to put on make-up etc. Beds were comfortable and clean. May 2010.
  5. The property was really nice and was VERY nicely decorated. The space was ideal for six people and all felt very cosy in social areas. The garden was perfect and perfect for barbecues! Location was good, very quiet little community with lovely pub too! Unfortunately the shop has now closed down which we were not aware of when we arrived, luckily we arrived early so the drive to Porthmadog was not a problem. April 2010.

  8. The house was cosy and well maintained. The bedrooms were very good with comfortable beds and good bed linen. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower which was a help to our aged parent. The kitchen was well appointed. The only bad point was that a welcome pack of bread, milk and a days use of fire wood, would have been a great help as we arrived late and the nearest shop is at Harlech, 3 miles away. Dec 2009.

  12. This property was in an excellent location. The village itself was very quiet and peaceful and many places could be reached within a 15 to 20 minute drive. The nearby beaches are some of the best we’ve been to. The accommodation itself was very spacious and comfortable and it’s certainly somewhere we would consider staying again. Feb 2009.
