Property Description

This superb, detached barn conversion is one of those uniquely rare properties that can accommodate the larger of family parties in true comfort and style! Its spacious living rooms, generous en-suite bedrooms (some of which suit partially handicapped guests), and wealth of extra facilities will delight guests, and the property retains many character beams, with fine joinery and decor. There are separate stairs to 2 ’wings’, so plenty of room to spread out. An ideal base for a year-round holiday, with fine walks to Stokesay Castle, a short drive to Wenlock Edge and Long Mynd, and about half an hour from Ironbridge museums. Offa’s Dyke and Clun are nearby. The village of Craven Arms has some charming and historic houses, including a round house, thought to be a recognisable rest house for pilgrim’s travelling between Wigmore and Shrewsbury Abbeys. Knighton, Bishops Castle, medieval Ludlow, home to nearly 500 listed buildings are within easy reach. There is half a mile of coarse fishing within walking distance. Shops, pubs and restaurants ¾ mile.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. We did not see a visitors book! We had two extended family groups spanning a 1year old to 60 year old grandparents. The house had sufficient rooms for everyone to be together or to be alone. It is out in the countryside, but within a 15 minute walk of Craven Arms where all the essentials can be purchased. The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre is on the edge of the town and is worth a visit. It contains the Library, a coffee bar,an exhibition and has WiFi. There is also Stokesay Castle within walking distance. With a car there is Ironbridge. Severn Valley railway, Acton Scott Farm, Mid Wales within a hours drive. March 2012.
  2. Ideal location and accommodation for a large family/friends gathering. June 2011.
  3. Well placed for visiting ludlow, iron bridge and numerous attractions in the area. March 2011.
  4. The property was just right for our family needs. We felt comfortable and with plenty of room to spread out. Having the 2 sitting rooms was invaluable. We enjoyed getting to know the area and spent several days walking from the Barn and not using the cars at all. Everyone we met were friendly and helpful. Feb 2011.
  5. The property was perfect for us as it had 3 separate sleeping areas - 2 separate wings upstairs and bedrooms downstairs. Aug 2010.
  6. Excellent size property with all the essentials included. June 2010.
  7. It had a nice stove fireplace with ample wood to burn. People could mix across plenty of communal space. Jan 2010.
  8. The accommodation suited our needs - a large family get together for Christmas. It was spacious with plenty of room for all us - 13 adults and 5 small children. However, we felt the heating could have been on longer before we arrived at 3pm as the house was very cold being so large. We felt the welcome by the owner was more negative than positive, ie we were instructed what was not acceptable rather than acceptable. We also found we had to wash some of the utensils and crockery before we could use them. However, we all enjoyed the weekend and would book again. Dec 2009.
  9. Fantastic house with lots of large rooms for us to spread out in. Oct 2009.
  10. Ideal for our needs - a large family get together - and we liked the slightly old world appeal of the Big Barn. Oct 2009.
  11. Excellent location for a large family group, plenty of attractions for all ages of the extended family group. Owner visited and very helpful. All members of the party agreed it was an ideal facility, plenty of local eating out choices at good value. July 2008.
  12. A wonderful property for a large group with small children. We’re hoping to come back later on this year. Jan 2007.
  13. Superb accommodation for a big family group. Like being a child again in a house big enough to get lost in and exciting to explore. July 2007.
  14. Ideal for two families as there are three bedrooms on each landing. Also good for disabled as access to the property and the ground floor bedroom with en-suite is excellent. July 2006.
  15. I have rented holiday accommodation in the UK for a number of years now. This was by far the best I’ve experienced. May 2006.
