Property Description

If you are looking for something a little special to celebrate an occasion or looking for that extra bit of comfort after long day walking or exploring then look no further than the cottages at Glasses Farm. Nestling in the pretty landscape that fringes Exmoor, Grooms Lodge (ref: EVA) and Stable Cottage (ref: EVB), have been converted form the original stables of an impressive 16th century thatched long house. Both these thatched cottages have been presented to a very high standard. The cottages offer a peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Each cottage has a private sitting-out area that looks out across the well-maintained shared garden. There are a further 20 acres of land to enjoy too. The owner of the cottages is a renowned breeder of American miniature horses. Should you choose to come and stay with friends, the cottages do have an adjoining door on the first floor. The cottages are located just outside the charming village of Roadwater, where there is a shop and pub all within walking distance of the cottages. There is superb scenery and walking on the South West Coastal Path or inland on Exmoor, and many other places to visit to make a memorable holiday. The Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, famous for the Watersmeet Gorge (NT), Valley of the Rocks and the funicular cliff railway. Looking towards Minehead, there is the promenade to enjoy walking and an ice cream, as well as having a good array of shops and other amenities. The West Somerset Railway is worth a visit for those with an interest in stream engines. Dunster Castle (NT) and village, with its beautiful terraced gardens, Deer Park and Mill will make for an interesting day out, as well as Porlock Weir. There are beaches at Dunster and Blue Anchor for all to enjoy. Shops 500 yards, pub 300 yards.

Large, beamed kitchen/dining room with slate floor. Double bedroom with 6ft bed and en-suite bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle and toilet. First floor: Large, beamed living room.

  1. This cottage/barn conversion is fabulous!!! the location is quiet yet close enough to links for anywhere in the region. The region itself is beautiful!!! The decor and renovation is 1st class, modern yet cosy. Ken and Ann are absolutely delightful and so helpful. Have to mention the cake on arrival, delicious!! They went to the trouble of reserving us a table in the local pub which was so kind and we had a fantastic evening there. It’s a great warm friendly country pub, note, you need a torch or two to walk to it as there is no lighting at all. This though adds to the overall feeling of being in the country. It was lovely to watch Ann seeing to the gorgeous horses and be greeted by Rosie the very friendly dog. We needed to get away for a few quiet days over the new year and this was the perfect place. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here if you want 1st class accommodation and welcome, lovely country setting in a gorgeous part of the world. Dec 2012.
  2. The accommodation is fairly remote, but if you do your homework before booking, that shouldn’t come as a surprise. However, once you get down to the main road you can easily access everywhere either by car, or as we did, drove to Minehead, parked the car for the day and then used our bus passes and public transport. The owners of the accommodation are incredibly friendly and helpful and the cottage very high spec which made it incredibly relaxing. Sept 2012.
  3. Excellent accommodation in beautiful surroundings. June 2012.
  4. Stunning location with easy access to local facilities. Outstanding Pubs and activities within a decent walk. June 2012.
  5. The cottage is in a beautiful location with very attentive owners and all the equipment you could need. A relaxing week’s holiday. March 2012.
  6. We had a fantastic time in the cottage and spent quite a lot of time in there, as the weather was very stormy and there were floods in the village. Cosy place with all facilities you need and more, with friendly owners to top it off! Dec 2011.
  7. The owners made us very welcome, cottage was lovely, furnished to a very high standard, clean and very comfortable, a nice cake and milk in the fridge made us feel at home. The village pub, The Valient Soldier, was very good for meals and very resonable. We will be back again. Oct 2011.
  8. My holiday at Grooms lodge was excellent, I had an amazing time. Owners of the farm were extremely nice, and made me feel welcome. I would definitely recommend it to others. Oct 2011.
  9. This property was excellent. The accommodation was 1st class and we received a warm welcome. No expense had been spared when fitting out this property. The only thing missing was a washing up bowl. Sept 2011.
  10. A top quality barn conversion combining period features & contemporary style. Love the bathroom, especially the ball & claw bath. Perfect for relaxation. Food at local pub wasn’t great - you may want to try elsewhere. June 2011.
  11. Our hosts made us feel very welcome with milk, tea, coffee & cake on arrival. Interesting information provided in the cottage about the surrounding area for visits & dining options. It was really great to be introduced to life with the horses on the farm. We used the local shop & pubs and found the people we met very friendly - in fact we were invited to join the local pub quiz night which was a very nice gesture to us outsiders. June 2011.
  12. Lovely cottage and really welcoming owners. Plenty of great walking from the door. March 2011.
  13. Space and finish both better than normally found. Feb 2011.
  14. Excellent property. Everything we needed and top quality appliances, crockery and pans etc. Lovely situation - very quiet and peaceful. Would recommend. Nov 2010.
  15. It immediately felt like home - from the lovely decor to the cake that was there on our arrival. Nov 2010.
  16. The lodge is beautiful, everything you’d want out of a country cottage! The quality of the finish was amazing, and everything had a real touch of luxury. Oct 2010.
  17. Really really great property, lived up to expectations. July 2010.
  18. Spacious, comfortable extremely peaceful and an all day sun trap. Superb friendly hosts who couldn’t do enough to help. June 2010.
  19. The owners were the perfect hosts, they had a very good knowledge of the area, and were very happy to pass on that information, on everything from good places to visit to good places to eat. We would be more than happy to revisit. June 2010.
