Property Description

These attractive stone holiday cottages enjoy their own driveways and pretty, lawned gardens. Green Farm Cottage, (ref RPP6), adjoins the owners’ 17th-century farmhouse, and Green Farm Stables (ref RFFQ), stands detached. Tucked away down a little lane, they lie 500 yards from the heart of the attractive old village of Hognaston, which stands on a hillside overlooked by Hognaston Wynn. Many houses in the village date back to the 17th and 18th century, as does the pub. Within walking distance is beautiful Carsington Water, offering superb water sports, sailing and bike hire facilities with an area devoted to wildlife along with cycle and walking trails. Located on the edge of the Peak District, the cottages are just 4 miles from the picturesque market town of Ashbourne known as the ‘Gateway to Dovedale’. Other places to visit nearby include Bakewell, Matlock Bath, Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Keddleston Hall, as well as other National Trust and English Heritage properties. It is only a short drive to Dovedale and the other lovely dales of the limestone White Peak District, which offers great walking. A little further afield, visit Alton Towers theme park for a great day out for both adults and children alike, who will also enjoy Go Ape at Buxton. Why not spend a more relaxing day at the potteries in Stoke. Shop 2 miles, pub 500 yards.

Living/dining room with wood-burning stove and sofa bed (for alternative sleeping only). Galley-style kitchen with tiled floor. Rear hall/boot room. Separate toilet. First floor: Double bedroom with 6ft bed (can form twin beds) with en-suite shower room and toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. A pretty little cottage. A quiet setting. Beautifully warm and a very comfortable bed. Friendly helpful owners. Nov 2012.
  2. Excellent accommodation for 2 adults , 5 star, really helpful owners/family, great facilities. Lovely area, quite and private. Great area for local cycling. We can highly recommend the food at the Red Lion Pub in Hognaston village . Would rebook again when cycling in the area. Ashbourne town centre is 10 mins in the car. Carsington waters is a 10 min walk/cycle away no car needed. Not for the disabled. March 2012.
  3. The cottage was a lovely, quiet location for a walking holiday. The accommodation was very comfortable and warm, and the owners very welcoming and willing to please. Kitchen equipment was first class and benefited from an eye level oven with separate electric rings. We had no problems producing cooked meals. We would recommend this cottage to anyone. Feb 2012.
  4. The most comfortable bed we have ever had in a holiday cottage. Lovely walks right from the front door. July 2011.
  5. We enjoyed our location and accommodation immensely. The only problem was not enough time there. We were also blessed with great weather. Would recommend to anyone. April 2011.
  6. We spent a very pleasant week at this property in early Spring. The weather was cold, but the heating was very efficient so we were warm and cosy. The owners were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The cottage was comfortable, very clean and thoughtfully equipped. Plenty of parking space and your own garden to enjoy when the weather is good. Lots of local walks. March 2011.
  7. The property was extremely clean and had everything we needed. The owners were extremely thoughtful in the little extra touches. For example a basket of toys was left for my 10 month old daughter, which I felt was very kind. I requested a highchair and cot but there was also a changing mat and nappy sacks, which was very thoughttul. We thought the kitchen was quite a good size for holiday accommodation and was well kitted out. Overall the property was lovely and we had an excellent holiday. Would recommend to friends and family. Oct 2010.
  8. It is a very clean, well prepared and stocked cottage in a terrific part of the country. Oct 2010.
  9. Well equipped, well maintained, and in a lovely quiet location. July 2010.

  13. The fixtures and fittings were of a high standard, and everything was clean, tidy, homely and welcoming. The owners were very helpful and accommodating, and the location was excellent. Oct 2009.
  14. Beautifully presented cottage in a lovely, peaceful location. Very comfortable. Walks from the cottage down green lanes to Carsington Water. Oct 2009.
  15. Everything was so clean and well presented. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Oct 2009.
  16. The cottage was well equipped, small but just enough. Is a nice romantic place if there is just the 2 of you, it was our sons first holiday at 13 weeks old and we just thought it was adorable. The countryside is beautiful and the views you get from the cottage were exceptional. Would love to go again sometime. Sept 2009.
  17. It was perfect in every way! We had a lovely break and would certainly recommend it. Oct 2008.
  18. The accommodation was very well equipped, lots of things there that you don’t normally get in self-catering accommodation. It was more like a hotel than self-catering. The best accommodation I have had so far from your company. Aug 2008.
