Property Description

This 1970s dormer bungalow is set in its own grounds in an AONB. There is a play area on the village green and the Pennine Way is close by. The holiday property lies midway between Alston, with its narrow gauge railway, and Haltwhistle - gateway to Hadrian’s Wall (9 miles). Lakes, Carlisle and Hexham approx 25 miles. Shop 5 miles, pub 1 mile.

Ground floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin with additional bunk. Bathroom with toilet. First floor: 1 twin bedroom with en suite shower room with bidet and toilet.

Open fire in living room included. Gas central heating, gas, electricity and bed linen included. Towel hire. Cot. High chair. Freeview TV. Gas hob. Electric oven. Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Enclosed garden and furniture. Garage (2 cars). Ample parking. No smoking.

  1. This cottage is in a perfect location for walkers. The village of Slaggyford is tiny and you have to go to Haltwhistle or Alston for any shops but we always take enough food and drink to last all weekend! The cottage sleeps 8 and there are plenty of blankets etc. There are 2 bathrooms, the upstairs one has a shower. The cottage has a lovely open fire which really makes the night times cosy and comfy. We’ve left a message to the owner in the book to maybe consider updating the oven, as its not really big enough to cook a proper dinner for 8 people. It works fine though, not everyone will be making every meal in the cottage. The dining table is big enough to sit everyone and overall we love coming here! We’ve been 4 times now and will keep coming back. The owner is very accommodating and is easy to contact. The cottage has been revamped a bit with double glazing in the upstairs bedroom now, which makes it really warm and cosy. Its not the most luxurious cottage, but it is really homely, cosy and inviting. (We always go in winter as its cheaper but I imagine its just as lovely in summer.) You will have a wonderful holiday if you go here! Nov 2012.

  3. The cottage is in an ideal spot for walking as a lot can be done straight from the door step. Plenty of places to visit, but most of all peace and quite. Plenty of space in the property, good parking use of garage for two cars. Dogs welcome. April 2012.
  4. Everything you need in this home, the people are very welcoming, the shops are in town about 10 to 15 minutes away, it is a dog friendly area with plenty walks and stunning views. Aug 2011.

  6. We had a lovely holiday in a beautiful location. The neighbours were very freindly as was the owner. The accommodation was just what we want when taking children and dogs with us. July 2011.
  7. Excellent location, out the front gate right onto the Pennine Way. The walkways are flat with no hills to climb, ideal for cyclist and walkers like ourselves with dogs. The walkways are fenced off (away from sheep) so no need to have the dogs on a lead all the time. Local pub came as a recommendation and we would agree. Food was excellent and the portions for the meals were huge!!!! June 2011.
  8. The cottage and facilities were lovely. The pool house was a dream. Our only complaint was the lack of clear instructions of how and where to book the pool or hot tub and location of electric meter etc. March 2011.

  13. This is a cosy little cottage situated in a lovely little village, with plenty of opportunity for hikers nearby. Nov 2009.

  16. It was very central and had an enclosed garden with walking areas for dogs further down the lane. The standard was basic but with kids and dogs it was perfect as a base. June 2009.
  17. Good base for traveling further afield. Central to the Lakes, Borders of Scotland and the East coast. Good local walks and friendly local people. Very peaceful location. The owner was very friendly, accommodation as expected, location very peaceful. Great for dog owners as the garden is large and totally enclosed and there are safe walks on the doorstep. Aug 2009.
