Property Description

Standing amidst wonderful countryside close to the North Yorkshire Moors, Little Edstone Farm is a magnificent location for a combined sea and country holiday. Secluded and tranquil, guests are free to explore the woodland and landscaped grounds, which are home to a variety of wildlife - including wild deer, owls, hares, etc. These properties (refs IKC, IKE, IKG and IYX) are set on a small traditional organic farm, and guests are welcome to participate in farming activities when available or to simply appreciate the workings of an organic farm and wildlife conservation.
Guests are welcome to purchase the organic products grown here directly from the friendly owners. Some of the properties are environmentally friendly, heated by a unique wood-burning/solar heating system, and many of the practices throughout the farm and properties use natural resources for their day-to-day running. An indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and hard tennis court shared between the properties, a small gym, a shared pool table, as well as a children’s play area complete the facilities on offer for these unique and comfortable holiday homes. The beautiful North Yorkshire Moors are a delight to explore either on foot or by car, or alternatively, the steam railway runs along stunning scenery through many unspoilt villages including Goathland (‘Aidensfield’ in the television series Heartbeat). The coast is easily accessible, 45 minutes away, and the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are delights not to be missed. The quaint cobbled streets of Robin Hood’s Bay, once a favourite haunt with smugglers, will keep children and adults entertained for hours with its shoreline full of strange and colourful pebbles. Castle Howard is within easy driving distance, and Flamingo Land (a popular theme park and zoo) is well worth the visit. The market town of Helmsley is 6 miles distant and has shops and inns as well as pretty walled gardens. Many NT properties can be found within a 15 mile radius, including Nunnington Hall, Byland Abbey and Duncomb Park, to name but a few. The ancient city of York is but a 45-minute drive (27 miles) and are within a 5-minute drive to the Yorkshire Moors. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep. All the cottages combine country living, yet are close enough to the coast to keep any visitor happy, whatever type of holiday they may be looking for. Little Edstone Farm is the perfect place in which to relax and unwind - whatever time of year. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Beamed living/dining room with wood-burning stove, wooden floor and well-equipped modern fitted kitchen area. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. First floor: Double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. Twin bedroom. Both bedrooms beamed, with vaulted ceiling.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. I booked the cottage last minute and was limited with choice due to the Wartime Weekend at Pickering. I took 2 people who both have mobility difficulties. Both found it to be good in terms of accessibility. There was a very short walk from the car park, approx 20 yard; 1 step down into the cottage. There was a hand-rail on one side of the staircase and would help to install a 2nd on the wall side. Guidance notes on how to stock and light an open fire would also be advantageous. Oct 2012.
  2. Total of 4 rental properties at this location. Pool, gym, etc shared with local fitness business too. April 2012.
  3. Cosy cottage - comfortable, well equipped and toasty warm so perfect for a winter break. Great for young children - our daughter loved the animals and play house and the set up was very thoughtful, allowing children to see the animals easily and play safely in the courtyard. The pool was a real bonus in the dark afternoons. Good location, a short drive from Pickering which is a lovely town, and well situated for day trips to York, Harrogate, the coast and the North York Moors. A shame a lot of visitor attractions are closed in winter or only open at weekends though, but we found plenty to do nonetheless. Nov 2011.
  4. Lovely situation, decorated and furnished to a high level, excellent pool, very welcoming owners. Nov 2010.
  5. Foxcover is an extremely well presented cottage in a small and rural complex. The facilities are excellent, especially the swimming pool. The cottage is well equipped and furnished to a very good standard. June 2010.
  6. The accommodation was well designed, well-furnished, in a lovely location. The owners were very friendly, helpful and the farm had excellent additional features e.g the indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and woodland walk. May 2010.
  7. Clean, modern; particularly liked wood burning stove! Dec 2009.
  8. This cottage was marked as 5 *, which it is not, albeit the facilities at the farm were good, which probably accounted for the 5*. Nov 2009.
  9. The decoration and furniture excellent. The general ambiance was great and very warm and inviting. Oct 2009.
  10. Comfortably and tastefully furnished accommodation, owners very friendly and helpful, swimming pool and children’s play area a very big hit with our 6 year old - she was in the pool at least twice a day! We would definitely go back. March 2009.
  11. Very nice cottage in a central place with lots of places to visit pool very good. Organic eggs the best. April 2008.
  12. It was an excellent base to explore York, the Moors and the Coast. The accommodation was well furnished and had everything to keep us entertained even on cold, wet and miserable days. Feb 2007.
  13. Wonderful position, with easy access to so many attractions. Owner really friendly and helpful. And... fantastic eggs and organic veg! Oct 2007.
