Property Description

Dating back to the 1850s, sympathetically converted and retaining many of the original features is this charming barn conversion. This adjoining holiday cottage oozes character and is located in Newton-upon-Rawcliffe, a quiet laid back village that boasts a duck pond and a traditional pub serving excellent food. Newton-upon-Rawcliffe is surrounded by stunning country walks and cycle tracks to suit all ages, ideal for that family get together or celebrating that special occasion. Just
4 miles from the historic market town of Pickering where the cobbled streets are lined with an eclectic mix of shops, inns and tea rooms. From here guests can board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train, sit back and relax as it chugs its way through the stunning Esk Valley into ‘Heartbeat’s’ villages of Goathland and Grosmont. Pickering hosts many festivals throughout the year, including the renowned Steam Traction Rally, and fascinating war weekend in October, when the streets are packed with visitors from far and wide dressed in their 1940’s outfits. At this time, the streets and the railway station are transported back to days gone by, a fabulous weekend for all ages. There’s a weekly market, and Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo is just 10 miles. With easy access to the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire, you can take in Whitby, known for its connections with James Cook and Bram Stoker,
18 miles, continuing along the road to Robin Hood’s Bay, a former smuggler’s cove, then Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington, all boasting miles of sandy beaches, donkey rides, fun palaces and fairs. A more sophisticated day can be enjoyed at the walled city of York with excellent shopping. Take in the street entertainers and maybe a boat trip along the river. Visit the art galleries and museums before returning to the comfort of Featherstone Cottage. There is so much to do and see in this area you may find yourself returning again and again. Shops 4 miles, pub 100 yards.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Very quiet location we lots of space and a good village pub just up the road. We would use this property again and suggest it to friends. Nov 2012.
  2. The cottage was amazing. Really well equipped and beautifully decorated, with loads of little extras and plenty room for a big family. It’s in a pretty quiet village with a pub serving tasty food a couple of doors away. Would love to go back and stay again. June 2012.
  3. Ideal location for scenic drive over the moors to Whitby and Scarborough. Spacious accommodation with good facilities for a large party. April 2012.
  4. Featherstone Cottage is a fantastic house. It’s beautiful, quiet, spacious and yet cosy and like a home from home. Its surrounded by beautiful walks and working farms. The owners made a personal phone call to wish us a nice stay and genuinely cared that we had a good time. Couldn’t recommend this highly enough. Superb place. Nov 2011.
  5. Excellent cottage in quiet location, though Pickering has all the essentials and is just down the road. Fantastic kitchen if you’re into cooking, cosy lounge with a good book/game/dvd collection. Owners are very helpful and are keen to ensure you have everything you need. Stayed there with family and had a great time, would definitely stay again! Sept 2011.
  6. This property sits in a sleepy rural village, well situated for access to the best of Yorkshire. The property itself is immaculate and modern, but with plenty of personal touches making it far from sterile. Pickering, the closest town has everything that you need to survive and far more including the railway station. For kids (and big kids) the station is heaven with frequent steam trains running from it to Whitby (search for North Yorkshire Moors Railway online). Scarborough if you get the weather along with many of the towns on the East Coast has great beaches and is less than an hour away. If you’re into walking there is a good network of paths leading from the house and if you like running enjoy the hills! Highly recommended. Sept 2011.
  7. Wonderful accommodation in a lovely village location - a perfect base for exploring North Yorkshire and the Coast. Cottage itself was very clean, spacious and welcoming. Everything we could have needed was provided. All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would have no hesitation in recommending Featherstone Cottage. June 2011.
