Property Description

This imposing Edwardian country house stands in its own garden overlooking sheep grazing the common at Goathland, whilst the views of moors and forest may be enjoyed from the west-facing terrace. Set in the village of Goathland, perhaps better known as Aidensfield from the TV series Heartbeat, in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it is in an excellent area for walking – the North Yorks Moors steam railway stops at the village station on its journey from Pickering to Grosmont. Horse riding can also be found nearby.
Whitby (9 miles) is a picturesque seaport famous for its Captain Cook connections, where the cobbled streets and yards stand in the shadow of the Abbey, overlooking the harbour. The three miles of sandy beaches lead to the pretty coastal village of Sandsend. Robin Hood’s Bay (renowned as a bygone smugglers’ haunt), Runswick Bay and Staithes are all worth a visit. Inland, the moors are scattered with villages, many with excellent inns. Goathland itself offers an excellent choice of inns and restaurants, in addition to local shops, post office and cafés. 1. This is a lovely, comfortable house in an excellent location for family or group holidays. Plenty for everyone to do whatever the weather. We will certainly try to return. May 2011.
  2. Spacious and well equipped. Comfortable beds and sofas. Jan 2011.
  3. Very spacious yet homely feel, very nicely kept and furnished but not so pristine that you felt you couldn’t relax. The games room and the open fire were favourites and the views from the kitchen topped it all! Oct 2010.
  4. The property is wonderful. An ideal place for family gatherings with plenty of rooms and an excellent views. It is perfect for walkers and tourists. The wine and chocolates on arrival are also much appreciated. Jan 2010.
  5. Terrific house with fabulous views. Games room a big plus for our grandchildren. Some area’s of the house could do with redecorating but this does not out weigh the positives of this house. Would recommend to other people. Location is excellent for the village and not far from other places such as Whitby and Pickering. Oct 2009.
  6. The accommodation exceeded our expectations in every way and we will definitely return. Absolutely perfect for a family get together as there is plenty of space, superb facilities and all in a fantastic area. March 2009.
  7. This property meets the needs of a family group with a very varying age group and a diverse requirements of interest. May 2009.
  8. The house was perfectly equipped to cope with our party of eleven and the dinner party we had planned for my Father’s 60th birthday. Everything we needed for cooking, and dining was there. The open fire in the sitting room made for a wonderful after-dinner atmosphere. The house was large enough for us all to live comfortably with each other for four days without feeling claustrophobic, there were plenty of toys and games to keep the children occupied - even in January. We left with the feeling that if the experience was this good in January, we must make the effort to return in spring or summer! Jan 2008.
  9. Our holiday was wonderful, the house was so warm when we arrived and the Christmas tree and decorations just made it so perfect and welcoming, it lacked nothing and the views from the windows were stunning, thanks, I am sure we will be back. Nov 2008.
  10. Lovely place, beautifully situated and very relaxing. Everything we needed was there, but it was not too fancy so we did not feel we had to walk on glass the whole time. Loved the provision of tea, coffee, milk, wine and toys. Oct 2008.
  11. Accommodation was first class, well equipped, roomy and in a beautiful location. Our party of 8 had a wonderful time and were all delighted with the holiday. We had a problem with the boiler which the owners responded to immediately, but unfortunately the problem was not solved during our stay. July 2008.
  12. The cottage was very well furnished and equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed the games room and the croquet. A lovely cottage in a lovely location. May 2008.
  13. The games room was excellent; the children especially loved the table-tennis. The sauna and the jacuzzi were a luxurious bonus. The property was well equipped, spacious, well-appointed and the veiws were stunning! Overall a perfect holiday home for our party of 9, ranging in age from 12 to 78. April 2008.
