Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Excellent location, very pleasant, eating breakfast watching the wild deer from the nearby forest playing in the open field. Feb 2012.
  2. The cottage is about a mile from the town of Duns, which has good shops and eating places. Being in the grounds of Duns Castle and surrounded by trees and a large expanse of grass, its like living in the depth of the country, with the associated variety of wildlife. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. TV reception is limited, but who needs TV when there is so much more to see! June 2011.
  3. Location. Oct 2009.
  4. A very good secluded spot; excellent as a base fro touring or as a place to hide away.. Secluded and in an unspoilt estate close to the small town of Duns. Aug 2009.
  5. This has got to be one of the best cottages, for that area of the north east, we have stayed in yet. The brochure & website did not reflect how amazing the place was. We will revisit. April 2007.
  6. The cottage is in idyllic surroundings but within easy reach of shops. It is very comfortable in every way and well heated. May 2006.

    Property Description

    A fittingly historic Borders setting

Superbly set within the 1,200 acre estate surrounding magnificent Duns Castle, and just 30 minutes’ drive from sandy beaches, these holiday cottages are perfectly positioned to make the most of a holiday in Scotland’s Border country. Providing comfortable accommodation, they both enjoy access to walks in the extensive grounds, which include deciduous woodland, hill vistas, a nature reserve and a splendid lake. At the heart of the Estate, Duns Castle is the owner’s home where generations of the Hay family have lived since 1696. Today it is a splendid Gothic Revival building which has evolved around a pele tower given in the 14th century by King Robert the Bruce to the Earl of Moray. Step back in time with dinner in the grand castle dining room, available by arrangement. The Castle is just under a mile from the quiet market town of Duns which has good local shops, pubs and restaurants along with a swimming pool, sports centre, tennis courts and 18-hole golf course. Enjoy peaceful lake and woodland walks from the doorstep, where the patient observer may spy roe deer, badger or red squirrel, and mute swans and numerous ducks take right of way on the lakeside road. Activities to suit all ages and tastes are nearby, with 7 golf courses within an hour’s drive; sandy beaches at Scemerston and Coldingham; visit ancient Holy Island; historic houses at Manderston, Floors Castle, Paxton House or slightly further afield at Bamburgh or Alnwick; shooting, salmon fishing and trout fishing, permits available locally or by prior arrangement; archery and clay pigeon shooting available by arrangement or simply savour the peace and quiet of this secluded setting. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Set in its own large, secluded garden, this charming house is tucked away next to the old walled garden of the Estate.
Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. Second living room. 1 twin bedroom. Bathroom with toilet. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin, both with sloping ceilings. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Bathroom with toilet.
