Property Description

Set in the heart of the beautiful and unspoilt Eden Valley, this 19th century farmhouse has been refurbished to create an outstanding holiday home just a mile from the pretty fellside village of Dufton. It has an interesting mix of original features including flagged floors and a wealth of beams combined with modern, contemporary fittings and furniture. It enjoys wonderful, panoramic views of the Eden Valley out towards the Lakeland Fells and are surrounded by superb walking on the Pennine Way. Dufton village and a vast area to the north are in the north Pennines AONB. There is a splendid walk through the wooded valley of Dufton Ghyll, home to red squirrels, foxes and a variety of birds as well as giving the children an opportunity to fish for tiddlers. In the village, you can enjoy an excellent meal at the popular inn on the village green. For the more adventurous the Pennine Way passes through the village and Dufton is also on the National Cycle network. It is only half an hours drive to the Lake District National Park, where you can take the steamer or hire a boat on Ullswater. The Howgills and Yorkshire Dales are also within easy reach. Free livery is available on request. Fishing and golf available in the historic market town of Appleby, 2 miles. An ideal holiday base. Shop 2 miles, pub 1 mile.

  1. Excellent facilities for a large family group or friends. We liked the fact it was quite remote with fantastic views all round yet still just a short 5 minute drive to a super market if required. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pans and crockery for preparing and eating meals. Beds were very comfortable and the whole property is well furnished and presented.   5. This cottage is absolutely amazing! The setting is stunning and peaceful. The house was spotless with gorgeous rooms, bedding and lots of extras that made it feel like a home from home. I would happily move in permanently if I could! Oct 2011.
  6. This is a spacious, comfortable farmhouse on a working farm, with good-quality furniture and restful country views from all bedrooms. It’s half an hour’s drive from the Lake District but the local area itself is charming, close to the Pennine Way and the lovely little town of Appleby. It’s a country mile to the nearest pub and a few miles to the nearest shops so a car is essential. Sept 2011.

  9. Wonderful place to stay, our party was made up of age ’40-something’ girls, trying to escape the mundane ’housewife and mother thing’ on a weekend, and we certainly succeeded that. Had great fun together eating, drinking, laughing, singing and dancing on the wii /playstation. Had a lovely walk to nearby village and a spot of shopping in Appleby and Penrith. Booked an evening Spa session at Centre Parcs on the Sunday to complete our stay. Would recommend this place to anyone. FAB! March 2011.

  15. Great location. Attention to detail; fire was lit on arrival, complimentary bottle of wine awaited us. Huge, beautifully dressed christmas tree added to the festive experience. Only down-sides were the en-suite shower ran cold only, and the dishwasher was not working. Dec 2010.

There were a few things that should be attended to. 1/ poor crockery and cutlery. 2/ t.v. was not up to the standard of the rest of the property. 3/ lots of bagged rubbish outside of rear door that we had to move. 4/ several areas of maintenance i.e. smoke alarms, drawer fronts and ventilation to bathrooms all need attention. Otherwise excellent. well worth recommending. Dec 2009.
