Cognac, Charente

Domaine de la Nauve

| Ref: F16128
Grade Grading pending

Standing in delightful lawned grounds near the River Charente, this beautifully restored 19th-century château has been home to one of Cognac’s most famous families for many years and makes for a truly memorable holiday. The grounds encompass formal gardens, a small canal and huge trees offering welcome shade - as well as a superb private swimming pool with full size Roman stairs. The interior of the property boasts impressive reception rooms with wood panelling and high ceilings giving a stylish, elegant atmosphere. The terrace with its summer canopy overlooks the garden and pool area. The highly discreet English-speaking owners live to the rear of the property and are able to help and advise you of all the area’s attractions. Cognac itself has a delightful centre with plenty of shopping streets, cafes and restaurants as well as all the famous Cognac distilleries such as Hennessy, and Rémy Martin. The impressive château in which François 1st was born now houses the Otard brandy cellars and also makes for an interesting visit. The superb morning market is a must to visit with its fantastic choice of fresh farm produce, regional wines, seafood, and poultry along with ready-made food from specialist delicatessen and patissiers. The golf course at Sainte Brice will be a must, whilst the sandy Atlantic beaches near Royan are great for a day trip. La Rochelle with its enchanting harbour is less than an hour away. There is an activity park nearby with open air water features and canoeing plus stables for horse riding. Bicycles are available for hire, delivered free of charge. Fly via La Rochelle or Bordeaux.
