Excellent touring base

This superb terraced holiday cottage on three floors, has been lovingly renovated and stylishly furnished to retain all its character and charm. It is surprisingly spacious and well equipped, and guests have complimentary use of extensive leisure and spa facilities at an exclusive local hotel. Located at the heart of the southern Lake District in Beatrix Potter countryside, making an excellent base for touring, there are wonderful walks right from the door. Bustling Windermere is just 3.5 miles across the lake on the ferry, Hawkshead 2.5 miles and the Grizedale Forest with fascinating nature trails, cycle tracks and the ’Go Ape’ experience is 3.5 miles. Coniston Old Man and the central mountains are all within a short drive. Shop 20 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Ground floor: Dining room/kitchen with tiled floor. Utility room. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. First floor: Living room. Second living/dining room with slate floor. Second floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin. Separate toilet.

Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Video. DVD. Stereo/CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Freezer. Patio and furniture. Portable barbecue. Parking (2 cars). No smoking. Friday to Friday.

  1. We found Dell Cottage a very clean and comfortable self catering cottage with everything we needed available. This is such a beautiful part of the world and Dell Cottage is central to the many lakes in the area. We did however find the pub across the road very unfriendly with no atmosphere. Other than that we loved our stay at Dell Cottage. June 2012.
  2. We loved Dell Cottage and enjoyed a wonderful stay in the Lake District. The cottage itself is very cosy and pretty and I loved the sitting room with the flagstone floor and woodburner. The location was perfect as it was always an easy drive to the walks that we wanted to do, and we were a short walk from Beatrix Potter’s Hilltop Cottage and from not one but two delightful pubs. The Tower Bank Arms offers delicious local pub grub, quite pricey for pub food but worth it as it tastes so fresh. The little shop in Far Sawrey is also very sweet and Sean (the shopkeeper) was able to provide everything we needed. We were very comfortable and extremely reluctant to leave. However, we did feel that a comprehensive and updated welcome pack with details of the local area & services i.e. internet cafe, supermarket, church services, would have been very helpful. Thank you very much for a very special stay. We look forward to coming back to the Lake District more regularly from now on! April 2012.

  4. My very first visit to The Lakes and the weather could not have been better. Opposite the cottage is the ’local shop’. Shop owner is in his first year and needs all the local help he can get, please use him. He can order you fresh meat and can in fact get you most things within a day. Sawry Arms Hotel (opposite) fantastic food and good value for money. If you fancy something really different try ’Sail and Dine’ on Lake Windemere (web site available) - what a fantastic evening. Freshly cooked food and wine in abundance (max 6 people), its a must. Would definitely visit The Lakes again, soon. June 2011.

  6. Dell Cottage is lovely and quirky. When we arrived it was lovely and warm; milk, tea and coffee were provided as well as wood for the log fire. The village shop is opposite the cottage and is handy for snacks and drinks. The pub (just up the road) was unfortanately being refurbished when we visited but was due to reopen very soon. There is a nice walk up behind the pub taking you over to Windermere shore (good views). Far Sawrey is nice and quiet but close enough to Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness to be able to enjoy their facilities. The close proximity to the ferry is very handy for quickly travelling across Windermere. Grizedale Forest is just down the road too. Nov 2010.

  10. Dell cottage is a lovely cottage with three floors, it is lovely views and is in the perfect location for exploring the lakes. You can walk down to the ferry across to Bowness, about a mile, and walk the other way to Hill Top, about 3/4 mile, with lovely Tower Bank Arms next to it. Sawrey Hotel good for a drink and only 50 yards from cottage, village stores on the doorstep and caters for most needs. Excellent! May 2010.

The cottage is excellently located within walking distance of the ferry across to Windermere and also to the village of Near Sawrey where there is the Tower Bank Arms pub serving excellent food and regional ales. The cottage itself is perfect for a walking break with Coniston being a 15 minute drive away and dogs are welcome. Kitchen and bathroom are on the ground floor whilst there are 2 sitting rooms on the first floor one with wood burner. The upper floor has 2 double bedrooms. Everything you need is already there, all you need to take is yourself and food and just in case you have forgotten something the tiny local shop is directly opposite the front door which sells groceries and newspapers. I would not hesitate to stay again. March 2010.
  13. Dell cottage was just perfect for our stay with our dog. The cottage is clean, cosy and well equipped. The location is good for walks, both serious and to the pub!. We enjoyed our stay so much we booked another weekend on our return. Feb 2010.

  16. Dell cottage is a lovely property in a very good location. The only downside for us was the fact that there was a small but fairly busy road between the cottage and the patio section so we had to watch the dogs constantly. The patio is lovely and would have been perfect if we hadn’t had the dogs with us. The cottage itself is really lovely. Aug 2008.
  17. The village store was opposite the cottage which was very handy and it was very well stocked, including fresh bread, fruit and vegetables. Having two living rooms was great as the kids could play in one while we relaxed in the other. There was also a log fire which was a real luxury in the cold evenings. Oct 2007.
