Property Description

In a magnificent rural setting, with fabulous views of the Skiddaw mountain range, magnificent sunsets over the Solway Firth, and the hills of Galloway across the border, these comfortable holiday properties were winners of the Keswick Tourism Association Country Establishments in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and the Cumbria in Bloom Tourist Board Rose Bowl for Self Catering Establishment winners in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Rose Cottage (ref LPD) is attached to the owner’s farmhouse home, Rosemary Cottage (ref LTG) adjoins another property, Rambling Rose Cottage (ref LWG) and Rosedale Cottage (ref LYL) are adjacent and have both been converted to a high standard, and Primrose Cottage (ref LPG) has been converted from a former byre and stands in a courtyard which is bedecked with flower tubs, window boxes and hanging baskets. The cottages are beautifully furnished and equipped to VisitBritain ‘5 Star Gold’ standard, except Rosemary Cottage which is equipped to a VisitBritain ‘4 Star Gold’ standard. Guests will enjoy the friendly rare breeds sheep and ponies (including miniature shetland ponies) and visitors are welcome to walk in the fields surrounding the farm (a red squirrel has been spotted in the grounds), as well as the many public footpaths nearby. This 500-acre farm is set in an AONB, with walks from the door plus superb fell walking nearby. Keswick stands on the shores of Derwent Water and is an excellent base to explore delightful Borrowdale. In the town itself are many interesting shops, inns and restaurants, as well as a leisure pool. Cockermouth also has a swimming pool. Just 6 miles away Bassenthwaite Lake offers a variety of watersports. Enjoy Derwent Water, Crummock Water and Buttermere, surrounded by Lakeland’s dramatic scenery. Guests can enjoy a local distillery, found 7 miles away. There is tennis, riding and golf, as well as good fishing locally and excellent bird watching from the farm, as well as the chance to spot the occasional red squirrel and deer, whilst it is a short drive to Osprey Watch at Dodd Wood, Bassenthwaite. Shop 4 miles. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants locally (including vegetarian). The pretty village of Caldbeck is 4 miles, with a restaurant, tea rooms and shops. Uldale is 2 miles with a pub serving good food.

VisitBritain ‘4 Star Gold’ standard. Entrance to fitted kitchen with dining area, oak beams and arched windows. Shower room and toilet. First floor: Sitting room with glazed door to patio and own garden overlooking field with pet animals. Four steps up to pretty double bedroom with 5ft, lace-draped four-poster bed. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. We were made very welcome by Isobel and Alan Teasdale and they ensured we were happy with everything. Very nice touch was providing us with warm scones, a bottle of wine and chocs on our arrival. Good variety of walks nearby and good pub eating in the area. Quieter than South Lakes. April 2012.
  2. Very clean, comfortable and cosy cottage. Peaceful and quiet and an excellent base for exploring the Lake District. Owners were very friendly and helpful and made you feel very welcome. I would gladly stay here again. Oct 2011.
  3. The cottage was wonderful, clean and very comfortable. The girls loved the animals and Isabelle and Alain were very friendly. We had a wonderful holiday. I would however add that you need to be aware that the property is very remote, everything is a drive away and that may influence your decision to stay here. We didn’t mind this and enjoyed the peace and quiet. July 2011.
  4. The cottage was fantastic and everything exceeded our expectations. It was like being in a home rather than holiday accomodation. Our hosts were warm and welcoming people. The cottage contained so many little treasures and there was nothing missing - they had thought of absolutely everything. We did have do a lot of driving to see the lakes though. We would love to go back to any of the five cottages on the farm but would probably be quite happy to stay put and just relax in the cottage and immediate area rather than doing all the touring. It was a beautifuly holiday to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and we can’t thank our hosts enough for all they did for us. May 2011.
  5. A beautiful cottage set in a stunning location which really could not have been bettered in anyway. The owners were two delightful people who really did go the extra mile to make the stay a truly memorable one. April 2011.
  6. Rosemary cottage was one of the very best and most comfortable we have stayed in, and the owners Allen and Isobel Teasdale could not have been more welcoming. Altogether a great holiday. Feb 2011.
  7. The cottage is very cosy with lovely views. We had a real feeling of being quite remote which was very relaxing. Oct 2010.
  8. The fourposter bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept in. The twin room was very pretty, just right for my daughter. There were beautiful views across the Solway Firth to Scotland. The cottage was very cosy and I liked the way it was laid out on three floors. The owners were fantastic, very helpful. The photos on your website were spot on showing the cottage perfectly. July 2010.
  9. Have been 3 times now and is consistantly great. Lovely owners. June 2010.
  10. Just what we wanted to chill out; secluded, cosy, well furnished, very friendly owner, quiet with all that we needed for a week away. May 2010.
  11. The cottage was in lovely condition and very homely, perfect for holing ourselves up in when we didn’t dare venture out into the snow. Dec 2009.
  12. The cottage was so cosy and clean and the animals in the field outside the property were a delight. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly and left a welcome tea table with scones laid out for us. It was like home from home. Oct 2009.
  13. Very comfortable and with owners on hand who did everything to make our stay enjoyable. Sept 2009.
  14. The cottage was very well equipped and was very comfortable. The owner provided basic essentials such as tea and coffee as well as luxury items such as a bottle of wine and chocolates. They even produced some homemade scones on arrival which were very much appreciated. June 2009.
  15. The location of this property to the North of the lakes was ideal for touring around the North end of the Lake District and is not as touristy as some of the other locations we could have chosen which was great. Having a toddler who loves animals made the fact that farm animals were very accessible a real bonus. June 2009.
  16. The location was quiet and serene, the cottage was warm and cosy, clean and comfortable. The owners met us on arrival with a bottle of wine and warm scones! Fantastic! They even left us tea, coffee and milk. Overall, we couldn’t ask for more. Jan 2009.
