Property Description

Enjoying uninterrupted views over parkland towards the River Severn and Wrekin Hill, Cronkhill Farmhouse occupies a delightful elevated position on the National Trust’s Attingham Park Estate.
This spacious, timber framed farmhouse is located in extensive and picturesque grounds including a sun trapped walled garden, fruit trees and brick apple store. Dating from the 17th century and Grade I listed, it was remodelled by John Nash, the famous Regency architect, to match the adjoining property (also National Trust and open 6 days a year).
Cronkhill Farmhouse retains many period details, including beamed ceilings, quarry tile floors and open fireplace. Providing spacious living accommodation, well equipped farmhouse-style kitchen and large dining and entertaining space, it can sleep up to 14. Its idyllic situation combines a very convenient location, close to the bustling town of Shrewsbury and the prettiest villages of Shropshire.
The property is especially popular with families and groups of friends, as it can be adapted to suit their individual needs, with four of the six bedrooms providing either twins or doubles. A la carte catering for special occasions and a freezer filling service are available to pre-book.

Accommodation: Entrance hall/boot room. Large living room with open fire. Spacious dining room. Well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen with electric range. First floor: Two double bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Two double bedrooms, each with 6ft bed (can form two 3ft singles) and additional single bed (each for +1). Two further double bedrooms, each with 6ft bed (can form two 3ft singles). Shower room with toilet. Further bathroom with over-bath shower, toilet.
Location: A local post office, shop, gastro pub and traditional country pub are all within ½ mile of Cronkhill. The National Trust’s Attingham Park is just 1 mile away, at the centre of which is a fine Regency mansion set within a deer park designed by Humphrey Repton. There is extensive year round walking to be enjoyed here.
This is an excellent central base from which to explore Shropshire. Shrewsbury lies 3 miles to the north, with its fine period architecture, cinemas, restaurants and excellent shopping. To the south are the spectacular Shropshire Hills and Acton Scott’s Historic Working Farm, as seen on BBC TV’s hit show Victorian Farm and a firm favourite with families. In its medieval castle setting, Ludlow provides a food paradise with Michelin star restaurants and artisan shops galore. Eight miles to the east is the World Heritage site of Ironbridge Gorge and its many museums. Three ruined abbeys and the remains of the ancient Roman city of Wroxeter are all within a 20-minute drive.
The custodian of Cronkhill Farmhouse is Rupert Acton who helps to manage his family’s Acton Scott estate, famous for providing the film location for BBC TV’s Victorian Farm and new series, Escape in Time, presented by Ben Fogle. A thirty minute drive south of Cronkhill, three further holiday houses may be found at Acton Scott. Henley Farmhouse, sleeps up to 20, ref RJJ3; The Shooting Lodge, sleeps 8 + 3, ref RNP; and Henley Cottage, an authentic Victorian farm labourer’s cottage, sleeps 4+1, ref ROO4.

  1. Second time at cronkhill, a cosy well placed house. Excellent for a relaxed weekend with friends or family. Brilliant walking and pubs nearby. Nov 2012.
  2. Large spacious rooms. Excellent for children, large bootroom, just right for dogs. Good garden area. June 2012.
  3. A great house for our weekend reunion. A well stocked kitchen. Plenty of space for the 10 adults + varying ages of children, and a perfect walled garden for the children to let off steam. May 2012.
  4. We were a group of friends - 8 adults & 5 young children. This accommodation was perfect for us - plenty of space for the kids to run around without damaging anything, a lovely big dining area for us all, bedrooms with loads of character and really well equipped kitchen. We were there in January and appreciated the lovely roaring fires we had in the evenings – though I would advise future visitors to remember to bring their slippers, as the downstairs floors are mostly tiled which was a little chilly! I would really recommend this property for a large group of friends – it manages to be cosy while still giving everyone their own space. Jan 2012.
  5. A fantastic, cosy holiday home, it feels like you’re in a secluded location but its only 5 minutes from the A5. Excellent location for exploring Shropshire, going and walks and getting into Shrewsbury. The house is great for large groups and has a well equipped kitchen - great for cooking for 12! Nov 2011.
  6. Comfortable beds, spacious house and pleasant location. A downstairs toilet would be a useful addition (especially given the number of guests the house accommodates). Nov 2011.
  7. We had a very enjoyable holiday and the house had everything in it you would need. The dining room was a very good size and the kitchen was very well equipped. Perhaps a downstairs toilet would be a good idea. Also a handrail would be helpful on the backstairs. Aug 2011.
  8. all the rooms were really spacious and comfortable. The living areas were really lovely... a great period house which felt cosy and we had log fires all weekend. There was great attention to detail from the owner and we had everything we needed except a big tea pot! March 2011.
  9. A lovely property in a great location - we were a group of 10 ladies, could have done with more bathrooms - a downstairs toilet would have been useful! March 2011.
  10. It had a luxury feel about it with attention to detail. The big dining table was excellent for a big family occasion. Jan 2011.
  11. Good sized rooms; comfortably arranged; felt homely, not institutional; good little touches like the table tennis were appreciated. Oct 2010.
  12. Wonderful spacious property with really good facilities. Oct 2010.
  13. Lovely farmhouse with lots of room for big dinners and relaxing in the sitting room. Also lovely garden - we spent quite a bit of time sat outside.
  14. It is huge, with big airy rooms. Fully equipped with all necessities and more. Sept 2010.
  15. Well maintained and clean, just great. Aug 2010.
  16. A beautiful setting in wonderful surrondings! The house was plenty big enough and did not feel that you were all on top of one another. June 2010.
  17. Plenty of room for our family gathering, children loved the garden space. Lovely to stay in an interesting old building. June 2010.
  18. Excellent gardens - very suitable for small children as well as adults. Enjoyed the outdoor table tennis. May 2010.
  19. Spacious, well equipped, lovely. May 2010.
