Property Description

Set in landscaped grounds on the wooded slopes above Lake Windermere, Craigside features stunning views and spacious, beautifully appointed rooms (all bedrooms en-suite) to create this wonderful detached holiday home. This architect-designed property provides a unique atmosphere to relax in comfort and elegance, whilst close to the fashionable lakeside village of Bowness (1½ miles) with its stylish boutiques, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. The first floor living area has huge picture windows looking across the lake towards the Grizedale Forest, the Coniston range and the Langdales. The secluded yet sunny garden features sloping lawns, a high natural rock garden and tall trees. A private stile gives access to extensive walking trails, hills, crags, and woodland. Wildlife abounds and an occasional deer might stealthily intrude on the garden whilst the paddock in front is often the home to quietly grazing horses. The elevated terrace offers peace and tranquillity to relax for a quiet drink, read or just to watch the bird life. The kitchen is fully equipped for gourmet cooking with white tableware and fine glassware to set off the large oak and slate dining table. The property is double-glazed throughout and utilises a high efficiency heat pump and oil combined central heating system. At the heart of southern Lakeland, the area abounds with historical houses and gardens including Holker Hall, Sizergh Castle, Levens Hall and many National Trust properties. The Lake District is an absolute paradise of superb walks, climbs and scrambles with fantastic views as a reward for the effort. Shop 1½ miles, pub ½ mile.

  4. Situated overlooking lake Windermere, Craigside is the most wonderful property. Spacious, clean and wild fell-side garden with a style over the top wall. Climb the style and you are immediately immersed in the magical solitude of the Lakes. Easy walk suitable for children and less energetic walkers.(A short incline then relatively "flat" )Wonderful view from the bench at the top of the small hill. The house is wonderful. Beautiful picture windows, comfy sofas, easy clean kitchen with all requirements. Beds comfy and ensuites luxurious. Lower double room has a wet room so easy showering for those challenged with climbing into a bath. The underfloor heating also makes this house warm and a home from home. Have a look at the virtual tour... this tour does not do the house justice! The view from the reception area window is amazing. We had no problems with the TV etc. All instructions provided and easy to follow even for me! The location is central with easy runs to the rest of the Lake District. I recommend a visit to Grisedale forest, just across lake Windermere, for beautiful walks for all abilities. Cycling and More energetic Tree climbing at Go Ape. I didn’t try this but I would have if I was younger!Interesting Forest sculpture and plenty to do for the little ones.This outing is about 30 minutes away by road or you can go across the Lake on the Ferry. There are plenty of brochures to give you ideas in the house. Rainy days? Just chill on the sofa and watch the Lake’s moods change through the huge picture window. Shopping abounds in Windermere where there is a handy supermarket near the station and other smaller shops eg Tesco express along the main street, Not to metion the many places to eat out. Oh and if it’s Al fresco you want.. there is a lovely big decked Patio area with table and ample seating . Great for family outdoor meals or just watching the birds go about their business in the surrounding trees. I had a wonderful week.I Simply want to go back. March 2011.
  5. Craigside is a wonderful, welcoming house, beautifully decorated and furnished, and amazingly well-equipped. The views of Lake Windermere are truly stunning. We had some problems with the central heating which were dealt with immediately, and we received support and help from the owner’s representatives, who expressed their apologies for the inconvenience. We definitely intend to return to Craigside; thanks for a lovely family break. Feb 2011.

  13. Craigside was a dream property! We all wanted to claim squatters’ rights as it was so luxurious in every way. The house exuded quality and care with thoughtful additions such as beautiful toning cushions and a plentiful supply of maps and reading material. Even for eight there was loads of space and we should imagine that in the summer to have dinner on the elevated terrace overlooking Windermere would be heaven. Deer appeared in the grounds -jumping over the wall, much to our delight and amusement. We were visited by pheasants and the odd rabbit too. It is a property to which we should like to return and there can be no better recommendation than that! Feb 2010.

The property was conveniently located outside Bowness-on-Windermere in a beautiful setting, secluded from the main road. During our visit the garden was visited by deer, rabbits and red squirrels.
