Property Description

Peacefully set in a secluded wooded valley, this old manor house and detached cottage, dating back to the 16th century, are full of traditional character and charm. Guests can enjoy shared use of the tennis court and indoor heated swimming pool about 2 miles away by arrangement with the owner (small charge may be payable). The Manor is very much a family home, with comfortable furnishings, and enjoys a terraced natural garden to the front where wisteria, fruit trees and wildlife flourish, with views over open countryside beyond. To the rear is a lily pond surrounded by farmland, where Lily Pond Cottage (a cosy cottage for up to four people) is located. Both the cottage and Crabadon Manor enjoy a splendid position, quite remote in location off the beaten track and tucked away in the heart of the South Hams countryside, the most southerly part of Devon, with a wonderfully mild climate where many flowers still bloom in December. Sandy beaches are easily reached and the rugged splendour of the Dartmoor National Park is 4 miles. There are towns full of medieval and Tudor buildings and villages of thatched, colour-washed cottages. Totnes (4 miles) boasts a splendid Guildhall (NT), fine castle (English Heritage), sports centre, swimming pool, motor museum, weekly Elizabethan market (in summer) and boat trips down the Dart Estuary to historic Dartmouth. The coast offers sailing and walks along the South Devon Coastal Path. Close by is the wild expanse of Dartmoor, with superb riding and walking. There are many NT properties to visit and the nearby village of Harbertonford (21/2 miles) has a good pub and restaurants. Shops 3 miles.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Wonderful ancient (600 year) family home loaded with well used antiques and items of historical value. Beautiful secluded setting on the side of a valley. July 2010.
  2. Very interesting old artefacts in a building filled with history. The modern furnishings let the property down though - the blinds in the master bedroom couldn’t be drawn, the door between the master bedroom and the alcove wouldn’t shut, the shower curtain in the master bedroom en-suite was too short so the water came onto the floor, there was no toaster and the dishwasher had to be reset each time to work. Sept 2009.
  3. Beautiful old house which was historic but very well equipped. Sept 2007.
