Property Description

Commanding a peaceful and idyllic cliff-top position with panoramic sea views, this spacious and well-equipped house stands in its own large gardens. Set at the end of a 1/2-mile unmade lane, it enjoys views over the Atlantic and across Mounts Bay towards Penzance, and footpaths lead from just outside the garden gate down to Polurrian Cove , a quiet and secluded haven with good surfing. Other coves are just a short walk along a dramatic cliff-top – Mullion, with its granite-walled harbour and Poldhu, scene of Marconi’s first transatlantic cable message.
Col Ros is ideally situated for exploring the west of the county, with the Lizard Peninsula, Penzance, Falmouth and Truro all within easy access. The Lizard (5 miles), with its craggy cliff scenery to the west and wooded vales to the east, is a mecca for walkers, surfers and divers. Penzance (21 miles) is an ideal centre for touring Land’s End and boasts the National Lighthouse Centre and Cornwall’s only promenade. More local attractions include the Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, famous for its air-sea rescue helicopters, and Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station, 4 miles inland. Helston (6 miles) is an ancient market town built on two hills. In early May each year there is the world-famous festival, ‘Flora Day’, with its colourful ‘Furry Dance’, in which long lines of people with hands joined make their way through the flower-lined streets. Helston has Flambards theme park, with a reconstructed Victorian village, ‘Britain In The Blitz’ street with wartime aircraft, rollercoaster rides, award-winning gardens and adventure playgrounds. Mullion has pubs serving food, or a short drive of 6 miles leads to Halzephron Cliff with its inn above Gunwalloe Church Cove – a 500-year-old smugglers’ haunt with lovely views, and recommended by the Good Pub Guide and Egon Ronay Guide. Shop ¾ mile.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Excellent location. Great access to the beach, costal path and good restaurants and pubs. June 2012.
  2. Wonderful weekend in a superb property. Five adults and two teenagers were extremely well catered for. Fantastic views, wonderful beach and very peaceful. What more could you ask for! March 2012.
  3. A great location for walking and beaches. All the family (9) enjoyed their visit and would go again. House spotlessly clean and very private. Lovely neighbours and fantastic views. March 2012.
  4. We had a fantastic family holiday at Col Ros! The house was great and catered brilliantly for 11 of us ranging from 4 months old to 73 so facilities were excellent. It is finished to a very high standard and really feels like home from home although we don’t have those breathtaking views to wake up to each day! The coastline is really fantastic and you could never get bored of gazing out. The layout of the house is brilliant as almost every room gives you chance to enjoy it. The pictures on the website don’t do it justice! The location of Col Ros is a great base from which to explore Cornwall as it didn’t really take long to venture to many fab places from here. The weather topped our week as never had expectations of being on the beach in March! We all struggled when it was time to check out and would love to return! March 2012.
  5. We are regular visitors to Col Ros and have been taking our holidays once or twice a year for approx 8 years now. Col Ros never fails to provide an excellent holiday. The location is literally "out of this world" - never seen another that comes close. Weather rain or shine the scenery is breathtaking, a beautiful part of the country. It has numerous places to visit or if you prefer just to stay put, you cannot beat the views. We love Col Ros and it is literally a home from home, each year when returning its like the first time, when you drive down Laflounder Lane and it opens out to the ocean it is stunning, and upon arriving at Col Ros you are simply transported in to a heavenly place - just stunning. Sept 2011.
  6. Beautiful location and excellent property. Went with a group of friends (over 70s) Oct 2010, and with family (4 - 73) Aug 2011. Both found the house perfect for the holiday. Personally I found the sofas too deep -knee to hip - but the young loved to curl up on them together. I love Col Ros, and heard only favourable comments. Aug 2011.
  7. This was our family get together and all 3 generations had a fanastic time. We all loved the property and location so much that I actually rebooked for next year from the house phone after we had been there just a few days. The location may not suit everyone as it is down an unmade private lane but for us it was just perfect. July 2011.
  8. Col Ros is the ultimate Cornish home from home, with the most fantastic views. Don’t worry if it rains, you can sit in the sun room and watch the sea. The house is warm and welcoming, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone. But be warned, if you visit once, you’re bound to want to go back again. June 2011.
  9. Fantastic position with glorious views and privacy. Feb 2011.
  10. Location and size and facilites were good. Dec 2010.
  11. The accommodation was very clean and had very adequate furnishings throughout. Excellent views of the sea and coast line. Oct 2010.
  12. Beautiful house in beautiful surroundings. Perfect base to get to everywhere or if preferred to just chill out & enjoy the beautiful scenery. Sept 2010.
  13. Large house well equipped and fantastic location. Aug 2010.
  14. Staying at Col Ros was like living inside a picture postcard. An absolutely idyllic spot. So peaceful and the views from the house are spectacular. The house is a gem. If you could imagine your dream holiday home, Col Ros for me would be it. As near to perfection as you could wish for. June 2010.
  15. View’s wonderful, nice big kitchen, big lounge. May 2010.
  16. Spacious communal rooms, very nice furnishings, well equipped, plenty of room, plenty of natural light, lovely views. May 2010.
  17. The property description was 100 % correct, even the photos, really a rare case in this business... We felt at home the moment we entered the house, even our 11 year old grand son commented positively by asking: "When will we come again to Col Ros" he really liked the 2-days travel by ferry and car from Germany. April 2010.
  18. Lovely house well equipped, beautiful location with excellent views ideal for walks, a real home from home, would recommend it. Nov 2009.
  19. Very spacious and a home from home feel to it. Gorgeous setting with lovely views. Oct 2009.
  20. Peaceful situation, set in pretty well kept garden, beautiful views over the coast and sea, spacious and comfortable accommodation. Oct 2009.
