Property Description

Clifton Cottages, comprising spacious Clifton Cottage, a large Georgian house and formerly the owners’ home, together with the smaller former groom’s cottage, Clifton Edge, has been converted with much care to provide comfortable holiday accommodation. Clifton Cottage, suitable for larger groups, boasts a large entrance hall, three reception rooms, and retains much original character with its beams, Aga and homely open fires. Clifton Edge boasts a hot tub in its own enclosed garden providing the perfect way to relax at the end of the day. Adjacent, yet detached from one another, they are set in a village location with the market town of Ashbourne only 1½ miles away on the edge of the Peak District National Park. There are many shops to browse and good facilities including supermarkets and a number of restaurants. There are leisure centres at both Ashbourne and Uttoxeter for swimming, squash and other sports. A similar distance away, an 18-hole golf course proves popular with visitors (available weekdays only). From the cottages one can undertake country walks, cycle rides through country lanes and there is also a very good pub 100 yards away in the village which does good food and welcomes Clifton Cottages guests. Highlights in the area include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Peak caves and caverns near Castleton, Alton Towers theme park (within 5 miles), Sudbury Museum of Childhood, Crich Tram Museum, Bakewell, Carsington Water, Matlock Bath including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Heights of Abraham. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Cottage was excellent and garden very well maintained. We had 10 adults and 6 children under 6, the garden was enclosed so we could all relax. Cottage was very roomy and clean. Would stay again. May 2012.
  2. We were impressed that a house of this size could feel both (very) spacious and, at the same time, cosy. Oct 2011.
  3. Fantastic property. Lots of space in the two lounges and garden and lovely local pub with good food and helpful staff. July 2011.
  4. Wonderful house for a large family get together. Lovely garden either for playing games or just sitting, sipping a kir and looking at the views. June 2011.
  5. This is a real ’Pride and Prejudice’ house. What a pleasant surprise to pull into the driveway and be greeted with this lovley house. The interior is so spacious that even with 14 of us we didnt use the dining room or second smaller lounge. The garden was beautiful and well kept. The interiour of the house was lovely and comfortable without having a showhome feel which meant we were very relaxed. As a group of friends this is the third trip to a large property we have made together and we all agreed this was the best house we had been to so far. March 2011.
  6. Our stay was so that the majority of our UK family, residing across the UK from SW Scotland to East Sussex, could attend my wife’s 70th birthday celebrations - as our daughter actually lives in Castle Donnington. The location and size of this property was excellent. Feb 2011.
  7. The accommodation was just perfect for the type of residents we had. Plenty of room for everyone not to get under each others feet. Sept 2010.
  8. Everything. Aug 2010.
  9. Lots of character, spacious, great country kitchen. May 2010.
  10. Space for all of us was excellent. Jan 2010.
  11. Really liked the layout, it was excellent for children, toys and games there. It was relly clean and had a lovely garden, which would be great in the summer. Dec 2009.
  12. It was large enough, very clean and well furnished, but not too smart, so we felt comfortable there. We left a note to say there should be a larger or more cafetieres as there only one average sized one , but that didn’t spoil it for us at all . The showers were a bit wierd - not a good lot of pressure in the electric one, but there was plenty of hot water. Oct 2009.
  13. Very spacious excellent location. Sept 2009.
  14. It was just like walking into a home that the owner had just walked out of and left everything behind, very homely and comfortable. Feb 2009.
  15. Characterful large house. Very comfortable. Jan 2009.
  16. Great house for family get together, including very nice garden. April 2009.
  17. Accommodation fully met our expectations. It was suitable for both the adult members of our party and the children. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and well equipped. the caretaker was in touch and available to help, but not intrusive. We would definitely return and would recommend the property to others. March 2008.
  18. The property could not have been more perfect for our needs. Would definitely recommend to friends. Sept 2008.
  19. We all really enjoyed the long weekend family break and the icing on the cake was the accommodation which was outstanding. May 2008.
  20. A fantastic property for a family get together. Very warm and comfortable. Loads of equipment in kitchen for large number of people. Caretaker extremely helpful prior to holiday - recommended restaurant for celebrations etc! Parking for lots of cars extremely useful. March 2008.
