Property Description

Dating back to 1706, Church House sits between an adjoining cottage and a post office in the Duddon Valley, an unspoilt jewel within the Lake District National Park. Abundant wildlife includes peregrines, ravens, red squirrels and deer. There are walks and access through the owners’ land to the picturesque River Duddon with salmon and sea trout (two fishing permits provided, Environment Agency licence from PO). The Duddon Valley is a jewel in the crown of Cumbria, situated between Coniston and Eskdale, remote, unspoilt and perhaps the most idyllic corner of the Lake District. The Duddon Valley will delight walkers, mountain bikers, climbers, nature lovers and those who enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside. The tiny villages of Ulpha and Seathwaite are two focal points of the valley. Seathwaite, situated near the end of the ancient Walna Scar road, boasts the 16th century Newfield Inn, where good home-cooked food, real ales and a warm welcome await, all day all year. Shop 10 yards, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Its much larger than the pictures would have you believe with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The local pubs are great with nice food, and the peace and quiet is tranquil. We had everything we needed to cover a Christmas week, and more besides. Highly recommended if you like peace, quiet, good walks and country cottages. Dec 2012.

  8. What an excellant cottage! Very well equipped with some very thoughtful touches such as wine,milk,tea,coffee and fresh flowers. We stayed for a week with another family who stayed in the cottage next door and all had a brilliant week. The owners even rang during our stay to make sure we were all happy. Well positioned for some lovely walks in the beautiful countryside. We were blessed with fantastic weather with the temperature reaching 25c in April! We would definately go back. May 2011.
  9. This is an absolutely super property in an idyllic location. The owners have gone to great lengths to equip the cottage as a home from home - even to the extent of providing a spare nut feeder for the birds in the garden! The bedrooms were excellent with comfortable beds, and there was a huge selection of DVD’s and books. Spot on - thank you! March 2011.
  10. Very clean. Thoughtful equipment and facilities. I liked that wash-up liquid and hand soap was provided plus dishwasher tablets for the week. (As we live abroad, it is a pain to buy everything!) Also sensible to put cleaning products in appropriate places - they were used, when necesary. Loved the logs provided. Play equipment for the children in the barn well utilised. Just brilliantly done. Aug 2010.
