Property Description

Dating back to 1706, Church House sits between an adjoining cottage and a post office in the Duddon Valley, an unspoilt jewel within the Lake District National Park. Abundant wildlife includes peregrines, ravens, red squirrels and deer. There are walks and access through the owners’ land to the picturesque River Duddon with salmon and sea trout (two fishing permits provided, Environment Agency licence from PO). The Duddon Valley is a jewel in the crown of Cumbria, situated between Coniston and Eskdale, remote, unspoilt and perhaps the most idyllic corner of the Lake District. The Duddon Valley will delight walkers, mountain bikers, climbers, nature lovers and those who enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside. The tiny villages of Ulpha and Seathwaite are two focal points of the valley. Seathwaite, situated near the end of the ancient Walna Scar road, boasts the 16th century Newfield Inn, where good home-cooked food, real ales and a warm welcome await, all day all year. Shop 10 yards, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room. Kitchen with slate floor. Utility room. Separate toilet. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 1 double with sloping wooden floor, 2 twin. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, bidet and toilet. Beams in most rooms, some low ceilings.

Woodburners in living room and dining room (initial fuel included). Oil central heating, electricity and bed linen included. Towel hire. Travel cot and high chair on request. Digital TV. DVD and small library. CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Enclosed shared garden and furniture. Barbecue. Parking (2 cars). Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. We stayed Christmas week 2012. This cottage is a hidden gem and exceeded our expectations. Its much larger than the pictures would have you believe with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The local pubs are great with nice food, and the peace and quiet is tranquil. We had everything we needed to cover a Christmas week, and more besides. Highly recommended if you like peace, quiet, good walks and country cottages. Dec 2012.
  2. This house is much larger than it looks in the brochure and is a real home from home. The kitchen is the best equipped of any self-catering places I’ve stayed in. Mobile phone signal can be gained on hill at back of the house. Sept 2012.
  3. Fantastic cottage, great for families. Highly recommended! June 2012.
  4. Church house was the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in - it was well equipped - including cooking oil and herbs, warm and was in a fantastic location - the games room was great for the kids and for whole family entertainment. April 2012.
  5. A lovely cottage in a beautiful spot. Extremely well equipped and great woodburners (better than mine at home!). The photos of the interior don’t really do justice to the property. We had a great time. March 2012.
  6. A wonderful week recuperating in a beautiful, well equipped house with great walks straight from the door. Thank you. March 2012.
  7. Location lovely. Quiet and peaceful. A good place to relax. The cottage was as expected from the description. March 2012.
  8. What an excellant cottage! Very well equipped with some very thoughtful touches such as wine, milk, tea, coffee and fresh flowers. We stayed for a week with another family who stayed in the cottage next door and all had a brilliant week. The owners even rang during our stay to make sure we were all happy. Well positioned for some lovely walks in the beautiful countryside. We were blessed with fantastic weather with the temperature reaching 25c in April! We would definately go back. May 2011.
  9. This is an absolutely super property in an idyllic location. The owners have gone to great lengths to equip the cottage as a home from home - even to the extent of providing a spare nut feeder for the birds in the garden! The bedrooms were excellent with comfortable beds, and there was a huge selection of DVD’s and books. Spot on - thank you! March 2011.
  10. Very clean. Thoughtful equipment and facilities. I liked that wash-up liquid and hand soap was provided plus dishwasher tablets for the week. (As we live abroad, it is a pain to buy everything!) Also sensible to put cleaning products in appropriate places - they were used, when necesary. Loved the logs provided. Play equipment for the children in the barn well utilised. Just brilliantly done. Aug 2010.
  11. This was a fantastic cottage - great location and very well equipped. The photographs on the website didn’t do it justice. July 2010.
  12. Beautiful spacious house and games barn, we had a great stay, lots to do in the vicinity great for walkers and photographers. June 2010.
