Explore the nearby Charentais countryside, a five minute drive to the lake of Thors with a beach, Cognac with day trips on the river Charente, famous distilleries and a market. Close by is Royan with sandy beaches and new orchid gardens. La Rochelle is only an hour away and has an aquarium, shops and sea food restaurants.

Location: 800m from Migron (shop), 4km from Burie (restaurant), 9km from Thors (lakeside beach), 17km N of Cognac (shops, market, distilleries, boat trips), 55km E of Royan (beaches, casino, boat trips, gardens), 96km SE of La Rochelle (old harbour).

  1. The house was perfect for our family group with five teenagers. You could easily sleep 9 people - two double rooms and a twin room in the main house, and a further 2-3 people in the barn annex with shower room and toilet. (It is worth noting that the barn annex is completely separate from the main house and has its own door into the courtyard.) The courtyard is beautiful, with a lovely swimming pool (about 10mx4m) and a games room with table-tennis. There is a separate lounge and kitchenette next to the pool, with a radio/CD player - great for teenagers to retire to in the evening. The courtyard is very secure, with walls all around it, and a high electric gate. The house is well maintained and very attractive, designed and furnished in an old fashioned style with lots of dark wood and stone. The farmhouse kitchen is reasonably well equipped for a family that enjoys cooking, and the big wooden dining table was great for family meals. The weather was variable - we had a couple of very hot days and a few quite chilly days. The property is located in a tiny village, with a bakery and a butcher’s shop but no general shop. (The bakery doesn’t open on Mondays.) The nearest general shop is about 4 miles away in Burie, and the supermarket is on the outskirts of Cognac. A car is essential, but there is plenty of parking in the courtyard (room for at least 2 cars) and there are lovely towns and vineyards to explore in the region. We would highly recommend this property for a family holiday. Aug 2011.
