Property Description

Set in the grounds of the Château de la Vauguyon, these two distinctive, restored properties date from the 12th century. The Dovecote (ref 37142) is furnished in a pleasant rustic style with beams, cool stone walls and a large stone fireplace. Le Théâtre (ref F37167), once a ‘theatre’ of La Vauguyon, stands in a courtyard of buildings, part of, yet independent of, the owner’s château. Both holiday properties enjoy views across vineyards to the château at Chinon in the distance. Chinon also offers an old quarter and fine restaurants. Nearby, discover the picturesque villages of Montsoreau and Candé St. Martin. In the heart of the Touraine wine-growing district, many famous vineyards can be visited. Explore the famous châteaux of the Loire including Villandry, Azay-le-Rideau and Saumur. A wonderful area for cycling, with tracks on the banks of the Loire. Horse riding, boating and golf nearby.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Very dog friendly place (we took 2 dogs), with a friendly and welcoming host. The Chateau De La Vauguyon is a lovely setting. There are also spectacular views across to Chinon from the front rooms. Restaurants are within walking distance, although slightly more than a 5 minute stroll… Aug 2012.
  2. Property is really excellent, unusual in shape, well situated approx 5 km from village centre but in countryside with no noise. There is a supermarket within walking distance about 1-1.5 km and a bar/restaurant although there are ample eating establishments in village centre. Proprietor lives in chateau adjoining and is most helpful and amenable for any local advice, and he speaks excellent English. Highly recommended. March 2012.
  3. A really good base for cycling at all levels. Dry, safe storage for your bikes. The log fire was a real bonus on chilly autumn evenings. A goodish walk from car to front door; friendly owner offered to help but we had lots of bags to carry so it was a bit awkward to ask him to hang around for ages. Suggest he might like to invest in a pull along trolley/hand cart. Oct 2011.
  4. A lovely, quirky gite with an extremely helpful owner (who speaks excellent English). Very quiet and relaxing break. Aug 2011.
  5. The Dovecote was perfect, the bedrooms huge! It was peaceful but within walking distance of Chinon. The setting was beautiful. We swam in the river, walked and visited a few historic sites. It was the best holiday accommodation we have had in a long time. Kitchen small but fine for our needs. July 2011.
  6. Very friendly welcoming owner who speaks very good English. Very quiet site with good garden area. Only the sound of birdsong. June 2011.
  7. Perfect place to be - near Chinon and its shops and cafes but very rural location: the best of both worlds. Lovely walks nearby, pretty places to visit. Owner is charming and helpful. The enclosed garden is secure for children and dogs. May 2011.
  8. The property was fantastic, with views to die for, including the deer coming down to the fence in the mornings, just to give the impression of saying hello. Ideally placed in the middle of the chateaux, with no more than twenty miles travel to see another spectacular sight. We will be going back. April 2011.
  9. Surpassed all expectations. The building is beautiful set in idyllic surroundings and the owner was very helpful but not intrusive. A wonderful holiday! May 2010.
  10. Very quiet rural location but still close to Chinon. Friendly, helpful owner who speaks very good English. May 2010.
  11. The property was very quiet which was what we wanted and the big fire made it very romantic. The scenery around the house was amazing and the owner was really helpful. March 2010.
  12. The property is in a wonderful quiet area, with a lot of outdoor space. The rooms are much larger than we anticipated. Dec 2009.
  13. Lovely period property, lots of character. Fabulous views from the bedrooms - great location for Chinon. Oct 2008.
  14. The property is amazing and should have more photos of where it is and the chateau it’s part of. Also mention of the stags that arrive each morning, the age of it and thickness of walls and how incredibly quiet it is. It really exceeded the brochure info! Aug 2008.
  15. We will be booking another stay in the Dovecot soon. Oct 2008.
  16. Excellent and atmospheric accomodation in a ’tower’ of a French Chateau, complete with wonderful views, a winding staircase and superb quality of fitting and cleanliness. Would go again. July 2007.
